"This private house is a perfect base from which to enjoy the adventurous activities available in northern Kenya. The chance to experience behind the scenes visits at Reteti is a very special bonus!"

OVERVIEW:

Reteti House is part of the Bush & Beyond portfolio. This company represents a number of superb properties across North Kenya, such as Sarara, Ol Malo, and Lewa House. The accommodation is booked on a full-board basis, including all meals, a selection of alcoholic and soft drinks, a selection of activities (please refer to our section below), conservancy fees, transfers between the house and Namunyak’s airstrip, and a laundry service. The house closes for a month from 1st November 2022, but is otherwise available this year.

ACCESS & LOCATION:

The house is accessed via road transfer from Namunyak’s airstrip. It’s situated in North Kenya’s Namunyak Wildlife Conservancy, 800 metres above sea level. Reteti Elephant Sanctuary is just 10 minutes’ walk away!

ACCOMMODATION & FACILITIES AT RETETI HOUSE:

The house contains four bedrooms, accommodating 8–10 travellers. All are exquisitely presented, in restful neutral tones. Furnishings include a double bed with mosquito netting, bedside stands and lighting, seating at the foot of the bed, well-appointed washing facilities incorporating outdoor solar-heated shower, and a delightful deck, where you can relax and enjoy amazing views over the conservancy!

Reteti House’s communal areas are equally pleasant. Also neutral in tone, they include a lounge and dining area featuring comfortable seating around coffee tables and elegant dining furniture. The structure housing these areas is open fronted, affording astonishing vistas over the conservancy whether you’re chatting, reading a good book, or tucking into delicious food and drink here. There’s a gift shop, where you can browse for souvenirs, and a very welcoming infinity pool! Flanked by sunloungers under parasols, the pool is perfect for relaxing in between activities.

ACTIVITIES AT RETETI HOUSE:

An exciting variety of activities will be available here. They include:

  • Exclusive visits to Reteti Elephant Sanctuary

     – As the sanctuary is just 10 minutes’ walk from the house, it’s easily accessed throughout the day. You can attend feeding times and head behind the scenes to learn about conservation endeavours. Definitely a highlight of any stay!
  • Expertly guided day and night game drives

     – The Namunyak Wildlife Conservancy covers almost 350,000 hectares of sprawling savanna, woods, mountains, and springs. There’s a lot of wildlife to see here, not least elephant, leopard, hyena, wild dog, kudu, monkeys, and reticulated giraffe. Head out on a night drive, and among the nocturnal species you might spot are aardvark, aardwolf, honey badger, and caracal.
  • Guided walks

    – This activity is perfect for safarists interested in the smaller lives of the conservancy. In the company of a knowledgeable and experienced guide, you’ll get to know the local plants, insects, and birdlife. There are over five hundred types of feathery friend here, making Namunyak a birder’s dream!
  • Mountain hiking

    – Anyone in need of a physical challenge will enjoy ascending the mountains in the Matthews Range, which rise to over 2,500 metres. The views from the top are truly breathtaking!
  • Fly camping

    – Why not indulge in a little adventure during your stay? A camp will be set up on a dry river bed, and it’s necessary to book in advance. There’s a mobilisation fee of US $300pp.
  • Village visits

    – Guests have opportunities to visit a local village and to observe the local people at the famous Singing Wells, singing to summon their cattle as they draw water for the herds. If you’d like to interact a little more, you can try beading with the Samburu women (US $25pp) or blacksmithing with local ironmongers (US $25pp).
