When To Visit Mathews Range:

“Reteti House opens in February 2020, and we are looking forward to experiencing all that it has to offer. This private house set in the remote Mathews Range will be taken on an exclusive basis.”

Sarara Camp’s private house, Reteti House will welcome guests from February 2020. It’ll be booked on an exclusive basis and looks terrific for travellers seeking high-quality accommodation in the Namunyak Wildlife Conservancy!

Reteti House is part of the Bush & Beyond portfolio. This company represents a number of superb properties across North Kenya, such as Sarara, Ol Malo, and Lewa House. We are really looking forward to visiting this new offering! The accommodation will be booked on a full-board basis, including all meals, a selection of alcoholic and soft drinks, a selection of activities (please refer to our section below), conservancy fees, transfers between the house and Namunyak’s airstrip, and a laundry service. The house will be closed annually in November.

The house will be accessed via road transfer from Namunyak’s airstrip. It’s situated in North Kenya’s Namunyak Wildlife Conservancy, 800 metres above sea level.

The house will contain seven bedrooms, accommodating a maximum of 16 travellers. Presently that’s all the information we’ve received. However, based on our experience of sister camp Sarara, we anticipate that the bedrooms will be spacious and sumptuous, with well-appointed en-suite facilities and all the amenities you could desire for a comfortable stay. We’ll update this section as soon as we have further details.

Reteti House’s communal areas should be very pleasant too. We reckon they’ll include comfy lounge and dining areas – and we know there’s going to be a pool! Again, we’ll provide more details once they become available. In the meantime, we have some info about telecommunications at the property. The phone signal is described as intermittent and unreliable, while the Wi-Fi, which will be accessible in the main areas, will be intermittent too. So the property will appeal to travellers hoping to switch off a bit and enjoy the lack of distractions, focusing on the wildlife instead!

An exciting variety of activities will be available here. They include:

  • Expertly guided day and night game drives

     – The Namunyak Wildlife Conservancy covers almost 350,000 hectares of sprawling savanna, woods, mountains, and springs. There’s a lot of wildlife to see here, not least elephant, leopard, hyena, wild dog, kudu, monkeys, and reticulated giraffe. Head out on a night drive, and among the nocturnal species you might spot are aardvark, aardwolf, honey badger, and caracal.
  • Guided walks

     – This activity will be perfect for safarists interested in the smaller lives of the conservancy. In the company of a knowledgeable and experienced guide, you’ll get to know the local plants, insects, and birdlife. There are over five hundred types of feathery friend here, making Namunyak a birder’s dream!
  • Mountain hiking

    – Anyone in need of a physical challenge will enjoy ascending the mountains in the Mathews Range, which rise to over 2,500 metres. The views from the top are truly breathtaking!
  • Fly camping

    – We imagine fly camping from Reteti House will be similar to what’s provided at Sarara. A camp will be set up on a dry river bed, and it’ll be necessary to book in advance.
  • Horse riding

Safari from the saddle is always an exhilarating experience! As many wildlife species aren’t disturbed by the presence of horses, you’ll be able to get really close to predators and herbivores alike.
  • Village visits

    – Guests will have opportunities to visit a local village and to observe the local people at the famous Singing Wells, singing to summon their cattle as they draw water for the herds.
  • Reteti Elephant Sanctuary visit

    – You’ll also be able to take a trip to Reteti Elephant Sanctuary, for an extra cost of $20 per person.
