"This property has one of the best locations in the entire Mara and I'd recommend clients stay here if it was significantly smaller! Unfortunately it is something of a mass-market giant, with 75 rooms... a style we try to avoid."

OVERVIEW:

Mara Serena describes itself as the ultimate safari destination – and we agree, it has a fabulous location! The sheer size of the property might put off travellers who prefer a more bijou approach, but the service is really good here and the guides are great. It is the only permanent lodge in this area and offers a wide range of activities.

ACCESS & LOCATION:

It is situated on Ol Donyo Oseiya hill, an elevated position providing amazing views over the Triangle area.

ACCOMMODATION & FACILITIES AT MARA SERENA LODGE:

The guest accommodation at Mara Serena consists of 74 rooms and one suite, all positioned to the east and north-east of the Lodge’s central areas via steps and slopes amid trees and planted borders. The rooms have been designed with a nod to traditional Maasai architecture, with the interiors delightfully decorated in bright colours. The beds are large and comfortable, while each room’s balcony is modest yet boasts superb views of the bushscape! There is also full mosquito netting, in addition to a writing/vanity unit, telephone and Wi-Fi, complimentary mineral water, and a safe, available from Reception. The en-suite facilities comprise a marble bathroom featuring a walk-in shower – free toiletries are provided and a hairdryer can be requested from Reception. The Lodge’s Mara Suite is exceptionally well appointed, with an impressive master bedroom, lounge, satellite television and video, mini bar, two balconies, and a bathroom with bathtub and shower! If you are thinking of honeymooning in the Mara Triangle, this might just be the suite for you – do get in touch with us for more details.

The Lodge was opened in 1973 and offers a full range of hotel facilities. The lobby décor is an intriguing combination of 1970s kitsch and modern Africa, with large French windows in Reception offering spectacular vistas of the Mara River and the plains beyond. The main bar and dining area is a short walk up a flight of stairs from the lobby and continues the decorating theme with Maasai wooden carvings and furnishings. The property’s spa and gym are brand new and provide either relaxation time or a serious workout, depending on your preference! Finally, the swimming pool is surrounded by rocks and features a lovely sundeck, perfect for relaxing in between activities and getting to know your fellow guests.

ACTIVITIES AT MARA SERENA LODGE:

Mara Serena is perfectly situated to offer exciting activities on its very doorstep.

  • Experienced guides drive guests into the Mara Triangle daily, knowing all the best places to make those important wildlife sightings! Compared with other parts of the Maasai Mara, this area is unspoiled, with huge swathes of open grassland and just a few dirt roads. You can expect to see giraffe, zebra, hyena and warthog – and maybe even black rhino, if you are lucky!
  • Another way to view the wildlife is from above, with a hot air balloon safari providing a very special experience that you will cherish forever. All year round the Mara Triangle is host to a wealth of wildlife, so keep an eye out for some amazing photo opportunities, no matter when you visit!

*This property is unfenced and located in a wildlife area, so large and potentially dangerous animals do pass through. If you opt to stay here, always be alert when walking around the camp and request for a member of staff to escort you if you have any concerns. Any guest is escorted after dark as a matter of course.
