OVERVIEW:
Mara Ngenche Safari Camp is an excellent option for travellers seeking luxury accommodation in the wildlife-rich Maasai Mara National Reserve.
ACCESS & LOCATION:
Mara Ngenche Safari Camp is situated in the central region of the Maasai Mara National Reserve. The Maasai Mara is usually accessed via flight from Nairobi’s Jomo Kenyatta International Airport, followed by road transfer. A well-marked track leads into the campsite, which is surrounded by fairly thick indigenous forest.
ACCOMMODATION & FACILITIES AT MARA NGENCHE SAFARI CAMP:
Guest accommodation at Mara Ngenche consists of ten tents, all linked to the main tent along sandy tracks through the trees. The guest tents are positioned within their own boma enclosure, well apart from each other for ample privacy. Inside, each features one or two four-poster bed/s, king size or queen size respectively. These are hung with mosquito netting, to keep the biters at bay! There are bedside tables and lighting too, as well as a dressing table and chair, storage for clothes and other belongings, a comfy seating area, and lovely river views. The en-suite facilities comprise flush toilet, twin washbasins, big claw-foot bath, and outside shower. Also outside, there’s a plunge pool for private use. And every guest tent is just as plush as the communal tent, with a similarly interesting palette – we particularly like the zebra pattern that appears here and there!
The communal spaces are set up in a large tent, which has a sturdy canvas roof supported by thick wooden poles. Inside, there is a lounge area featuring plenty of comfortable seating around coffee and occasional tables. Materials include leather and suede, creating a sumptuous style. The palette is creams and browns, overlaid with colourful patterns such as a very vibrant stripe. An additional area of seating is available for guests using the camp’s bar. The dining area contains chic separate tables and chairs, with everything pleasantly presented. Just outside the tent, there are spaces for al fresco lounging and dining – for the best views, guests can sit close to the banks of the river. The grounds also have a fire-pit, the perfect place to gather with your fellow travellers and share your safari stories!
ACTIVITIES AT MARA NGENCHE SAFARI CAMP:
Mara Ngenche offers an exciting range of activities – safari, culture, entertainment.
- Game drives are available during the morning and the afternoon. The Maasai Mara is world renowned for its location on the Great Migration route. Hundreds of thousands of wildebeest, together with zebra and gazelles, journey through the reserve from July to October in their search for good grazing. Of course herbivores in these numbers attract a vast amount of predators in turn! Lion, leopard, and cheetah follow the herds, while crocodiles lurk in the rivers, all hoping to make a kill. But the reserve boasts a wealth of wildlife all year round – big cats, smaller cats, jackals, wild dog, giraffe, antelopes, and over 500 species of bird. All game drives from Mara Ngenche are led by highly knowledgeable and experienced guides, guaranteeing great sightings in the reserve.
- You can also experience visits to a Maasai village, attend lectures on the local culture from a resident naturalist, and enjoy entertainments from Maasai warriors too!
- The cultural activities are wonderful opportunities to get to know the culture of the region. Staff members throughout camp provide superb service, with expert attention to detail. Private dining is available, as are bush breakfasts and dinners, picnic lunches, and sundowners. Children aged 6–16 years incur a reduced rate, and youngsters aged 5 years and under stay for free!
*This property is unfenced and located in a wildlife area, so large and potentially dangerous animals do pass through. If you opt to stay here, always be alert when walking around the camp and request for a member of staff to escort you if you have any concerns. Any guest is escorted after dark as a matter of course.
