"As you drive up to Mahale Mzuri, it is impossible to miss the striking rooftops of the tents which offer Richard Branson’s take on a luxury safari camp. The tent design, interiors, and service are top quality and very impressive, but very much appeal to those looking for a hotel experience in the bush. "

OVERVIEW:

Part of the Virgin Limited Edition, Mahali Mzuri has earned a reputation as a go-to destination for those seeking a more comfortable base from which to explore the wonders of the Conservancy!

ACCESS & LOCATION:

Once you have flown from Nairobi to the Mara North airstrip, you are greeted and taken to the camp by members of the Mahali Mzuri team.

*Please be aware that we are unable to book this property for families with young children under the age of 6 years, for safety reasons relating to the balconies/decks/walkways.*

?ACCOMMODATION & FACILITIES AT MAHALI MZURI:

The lounge area at Mahali Mzuri is beautifully decorated to reflect its surroundings, with an added dash of contemporary style. It offers the comforts of a snug fireplace, a library of books, iPads, TV/DVD and games console, so you can really relax. The dining experience here is truly opulent! Whether you prefer to eat in the chic surroundings of the dining tent or on your own private deck, the chefs at Mahali Mzuri promise a variety of pan-African dishes using locally sourced produce and spices. The fully stocked free bar always has a member of staff on hand to serve you a glass of bubbly or whatever your favourite tipple happens to be. And then there is the infinity pool in which to cool down or get in some laps, as well as a variety of spa treatments at Nasaro (located at the base of the valley) so you will feel truly pampered and refreshed, ready for the great game drives! There is also the chance to do some serious star gazing with the on-site telescope that is free for guests to use.

The twelve uniquely styled tented rooms are situated on either side of the main tent and easily accessible by a walkway. Ten of the tents accommodate two people, while the remaining two can cater for up to four each. The camp can take up to twenty-four guests at any one time. To say the tents are comfortable is an understatement – this is not your average tented room! All en-suite facilities feature claw-foot baths, separate showers, twin washbasins, and locally produced toiletries. The master bedrooms are carpeted and come with large beds, leather sofas, writing desks, fridges, tea- and coffee-making facilities. Finally, private decking areas provide more comfortable seating, enabling you to sit back and take in the exquisite vistas of the landscape and even the animal life that is native to this part of Africa.

ACTIVITIES AT MAHALI MZURI:

Once ready for action, you are in for a treat! Game drives are available in the mornings and afternoons, or why not go for a full day or even at night?

  • Due to Mahali Mzuri’s position, you are never far from seeing the spectacular array of animals living in the Olare Motorogi Conservancy. From lion to elephant, wildebeest to zebra, and leopard, cheetah, and giraffe… who knows what you will experience while on safari? A number of lion pride territories actually converge here, so there’s the chance to view the battle for dominance being played out right before you! On an evening drive you can encounter other animals, such as aardvark and honey badger.
  • It is worth noting that the areas covered by the morning and afternoon drives are private, so the only traffic is that of the guests from Mahali Mzuri camp – this is a truly personal experience. If you are keen to see the annual wildebeest Great Migration, book between July and October to see them before they make their way to the Serengeti.
  • For a completely different view of the animals and rich abundance of wildlife, why not book a hot air balloon ride? Launching at first light, this activity yields the opportunity to take possibly the best photographs of your life!
  • You can also enjoy a community tour to learn about the Maasai tribe and its cultures – and generally to get a real feel for life in this region. Alternatively, just take time for a guided walk around the area of the camp with an armed guide and experience everything at your own speed.

*This property is unfenced and located in a wildlife area, so large and potentially dangerous animals do pass through. If you opt to stay here, always be alert when walking around the camp and request for a member of staff to escort you if you have any concerns. Any guest is escorted after dark as a matter of course.
