"This is a brand new lodge in the Elewana portfolio. We haven’t seen it yet, but it looks seriously smart and we love the Loisaba area so have high expectations."

OVERVIEW:

Presently Elewana operates 15 lodges, camps, and hotels across Tanzania and Kenya - varying in style with good quality and comfort throughout. Of these, two are situated in the Loisaba Conservancy – Loisaba Tented Camp and Loisaba Star Beds. Now we’re delighted to divulge that the company’s third property in Loisaba is expected to welcome its first guests this June. Lodo Springs will offer a very high quality base from which to explore the conservancy. We anticipate that accommodation will be booked on a fully inclusive basis and that the camp will be open throughout the year.

ACCESS & LOCATION:

The camp will be accessed via road transfer from Loisaba’s airstrip. It’ll have a wonderful location, with vistas across sprawling plains as far as Mount Kenya!

ACCOMMODATION & FACILITIES AT ELEWANA LODO SPRINGS:

Guest accommodation will consist of eight tented rooms. We’re told that the camp has been designed by architects Chris Payne and Jan Allen, with additional landscape architecture from Jo Silvester. The artist’s impression of a guest unit shows a structure under a pitched roof. The roof is made out of canvas, held in place by sturdy ropes and poles. It extends over the sides of the tent to create a veranda at the front. Here, we see a couple of safari chairs and a small table, where guests will be able to relax and enjoy the views! The tent building itself features a lot of glass, in the form of almost whole walls of windows. Peeping through the nearest wall, we can make out a luxurious bedroom. The en-suite facilities, are well appointed, with twin sinks and a large mirror held in place by beautiful reclaimed dhow wood, along with a large walk-in shower. It’s certainly worth mentioning that every tent will benefit from being assigned an Elewana Guest Ambassador, a dedicated safari vehicle and driver, and a qualified field guide! We’ll update this section once we’ve received further details.

ACTIVITIES AT ELEWANA LODO SPRINGS:

Below, we list activities that are currently available in the Loisaba Conservancy:

  • Expertly guided game drives

    - The conservancy covers over 20,000 hectares of sprawling savanna, scrublands, woodlands, and water sources. Among the wildlife highlights here are all Big Five – lion, rhino, leopard, elephant, and buffalo! Smaller predators and herbivores in residence include cheetah, hyena, jackal, wild dog, giraffe, zebra, and antelopes. Drives from Lodo Springs will take place during early morning and late afternoon, in the company of your knowledgeable and experienced guide.
  • Bush walks

    - Also enjoyed in the presence of your guide, this activity involves taking a really close look at the some of the smaller features of Loisaba, such as the plants, insects, and birdlife. The conservancy is home to more than five hundred types of feathery friend!
  • Horse riding

    - This is an exciting opportunity to get in among herds of herbivores. The likes of giraffe and zebra are at ease with safarists on horseback, and Elewana’s horses in turn are accustomed to plains game, having been brought up in the bush. However, please note that riding experience is required.
  • Camel trekking

    - All travellers can take part in this activity, and both long and short walks are available.
  • Biking

    - Loisaba offers a number of biking trails. Setting off on the saddle is a thrilling way to explore the conservancy’s diverse landscape.
  • Cultural experiences

    - Elewana has a strong background in caring for both the communities and the wildlife in the regions where the company operates camps. Just one example of a cultural experience here is meeting the local anti-poaching team, made up of four sniffer dogs and their human handlers. Guests can learn about the team’s good works and even view an anti-poaching demonstration! For more information about this activity, or anything else to do with staying at Lodo Springs, please contact a member of the YZ team.

*This property is unfenced and located in a wildlife area, so large and potentially dangerous animals do pass through. If you opt to stay here, always be alert when walking around the camp and request for a member of staff to escort you if you have any concerns. Any guest is escorted after dark as a matter of course.
