“Elerai Camp is located on a private conservancy 12 kilometres from Amboseli National Park. It offers iconic views out over to Mount Kilimanjaro from the suites, as well as close links to the local Maasai community.”

OVERVIEW:

Elerai Camp is owned and operated by The Out of Africa Collection, a company with a stunning portfolio of properties across Kenya. Offering classic accommodation and high service standards, the camp has been awarded a Certificate of Excellence from TripAdvisor! The price of your stay includes all meals, all safari activities, parking, and Wi-Fi.

ACCESS & LOCATION:

The camp is situated in its own concession, south-east of Amboseli National Park. It can be accessed via road transfer from Amboseli Airport, a drive of just over 35 kilometres along the C103. Elerai Camp occupies a slightly elevated position. It’s unfenced, so we recommend that young children are supervised throughout their time here.

ACCOMMODATION & FACILITIES AT ELERAI CAMP:

Guest accommodation consists of five suites and nine tents. Each suite has been constructed to resemble a safari lodge, complete with timber frame, natural rock walls, and a thatched roof. Inside, you’ll find a double bed or twin beds, bedside tables and lighting, a writing desk and chair, floor rugs, and plenty of storage space. The en-suite facilities comprise flush toilet, washbasin, hand-crafted bathtub, shower, and a lovely view! Sliding doors from the bedroom area lead onto a private veranda – from here, you can gaze out over the plains of Elerai Conservancy as far as Amboseli National Park. The tents, raised on wooden platforms and also benefiting from a thatched roof, are just as well equipped, featuring en-suite shower room, balcony with daybed, and spectacular vistas of Mount Kilimanjaro!
Elerai Camp's communal buildings are linked to the guest suites and tents via neat crazy-paving pathways. Positioned around a group of big boulders, they are made out of natural materials and blend beautifully with the surrounding landscape. Communal spaces include a welcoming reception area, from which guests access other buildings via a bridge over a fish pond! The lounge contains cushioned rattan seating around wooden coffee tables, and it adjoins the well-stocked bar. The dining room extends onto the camp’s dining terrace, where guests can enjoy delicious meals while watching resident big cats and other species quench their thirst at a nearby waterhole. Locally sourced ingredients are used to prepare a fine assortment of international dishes, and kitchen staff members are happy to accommodate all special diets. If you opt to go out on a full-day’s game drive, they’ll pack up a picnic for you. They’ll organise a special bush dinner too, on request. And Elerai Camp also has a free-form swimming pool!

ACTIVITIES AT ELERAI CAMP:

The camp offers an exciting range of activities.

  • Morning, afternoon, and full-day game drives take place both in the private conservancy and in Amboseli National Park. Wildlife you can expect to see includes lion, leopard, elephant, and buffalo (four of the Big Five!), in addition to giraffe, wildebeest, zebra, Grant’s and Thomson’s gazelles, eland, lesser kudu, and warthog.
  • Bird highlights feature Goliath heron, Hartlaub’s bustard, African jacana, and the magnificent crowned crane. Night drives are available within the conservancy for safarists eager to see some nocturnal inhabitants, among them serval, civet, genet, aardvark, aardwolf, and bush baby!
  • You can also go on game walks in the company of knowledgeable and experienced guides, for close encounters with all manner of animal, bird, insect, and plant life.
  • And the camp provides a cultural experience too, in which guests meet the local people and learn how to light a fire, how to use plants for a range of medical conditions, and even how to survive in the middle of the bush! We recommend fitting as much as possible into your stay here.

*This property is unfenced and located in a wildlife area, so large and potentially dangerous animals do pass through. If you opt to stay here, always be alert when walking around the camp and request for a member of staff to escort you if you have any concerns. Any guest is escorted after dark as a matter of course.
