“We have really high hopes for Chyulu Club – a new carbon-neutral, luxury lodge, from the team behind the wonderful Campi ya Kanzi.”

OVERVIEW:

Forming part of Chyulu Wilderness Camp, Chyulu Club will be the first carbon-negative safari property in Africa! It’s being built on the site of former YZ favourite Campi ya Kanzi and will produce no carbon emissions due to use of electric safari vehicles and a 100 per cent photovoltaic system (no fossil fuels). With rooms suitable for singles, couples, families, and groups, Chyulu Club will be perfect for travellers seeking a luxurious base from which to enjoy a range of activities. Accommodation will be booked on a full-board basis and we expect the property to be open throughout the year.

ACCESS & LOCATION:

Chyulu Club will be situated within a Maasai ranch in Olpusare Spring, between the Chyulu Hills and Mount Kilimanjaro. It will be accessed via flight from Nairobi’s Jomo Kenyatta International Airport to the club’s airstrip, followed by brief road transfer.

?ACCOMMODATION & FACILITIES AT CHYULU CLUB:

The club will have 20 tents – 6 for singles/doubles and 14 for groups or families. All will be elevated above ground level on wooden platforms. The tents will be Meru in style, with an additional layer of canvas extending beyond the entrance to form a private veranda. Here, guests will be able to relax and enjoy a beautiful view! The Luxury Tent, the smaller option, will feature a four-poster double bed with mosquito netting, bedside tables and lighting, and a writing desk. A few Persian rugs will adorn the floor, and every tent in this category will boast an en-suite washroom with indoor/outdoor showers. Each Quadruple Tent, for a family or group, will contain four single beds with mosquito nets, bedside lighting, lots of storage space, and a well-appointed en-suite bathroom. This is all the information that’s available at the moment – we’ll update the details as soon as we can.

Communal facilities at Chyulu Club will be housed mainly in a spacious wood-and-thatch structure, open sided to present very pleasant vistas. There will be a comfortable lounge area, a dining room, a library, a conference room, and a café. Delicious meals will be prepared in kitchens using induction ovens, powered by the property’s photovoltaic system. Finally, there will be an outdoor fireplace, perfect for morning and evening gatherings! Again, we’ll provide more info asap.

ACTIVITIES AT CHYULU CLUB:

The club will supply a thrilling range of things to do for adults and for children. Parents can opt to join in with the children’s activities or take time out for their own adventure.

  • Vehicle and walking safaris

    - These activities will be available for adults. A drive in one of the Club’s electric Land Rovers will provide sightings of Chyulu’s ample wildlife – this includes the Big Five, as well as Maasai giraffe, Grant’s zebra, antelopes, and even cheetah. And walks will be ideal for anyone wishing to become familiar with the area’s plants, insects, and fine assortment of birdlife.
  • Horseback safaris

    - Another adult activity, horseriding through the hills will be an exhilarating experience. We’ll let you know more about this when possible.
  • Other attractions

    - Adults will be invited to work in a tree nursery or an organic farm, and to practise yoga and meditation.
  • Explore the savanna

    - Young visitors could start their stay by getting to know the plains, cloud forests, and hills of the scenic Chyulu area, all in the company of a friendly and knowledgeable guide.
  • Learning about the animals

    - This will be an opportunity for children to find out about how to protect wild animals and how to live in balance with nature.
  • Artistic projects

    - Youngsters will also have the opportunity to enjoy artwork with the local Maasai, in an interesting introduction to the Maasai culture.
  • Local school visit

    - Kids will be invited to teach here, and encouraged to think up suggestions to improve local education.
  • Wildlife projects

    - With help from members of the Maasai Wilderness Conservation Trust, children can learn about wildlife preservation and reforestation, and perhaps offer solutions to current challenges.
