ACCESS & LOCATION:

Placed along the valley rim, it is set in the peaceful Saddle Valley within the Mara Naboisho Conservancy.

?ACCOMMODATION & FACILITIES AT BASECAMP WILDERNESS:

The Camp’s mess tent is perfectly situated for guests to enjoy the Naboisho wilderness. You can take in superb views of the surrounding landscape and the abundant wildlife without having to leave your comfortable chair! Take a seat in the ample shaded deck overlooking the savannah and check out the excitement of the watering hole just below – the zebras, giraffes, baboons, topi, wildebeest and elephants. The mess tent’s décor is natural, with lounge chairs, a sofa, sitting chairs and a table, skilfully crafted from local materials. Your meals are served in the dining area, which also features comfy leather chairs, interesting reading material, and a lovely old gramophone. Alternatively, eat outdoors to make the most of that wonderful view! Come evening, it is a joy to relax around the campfire and listen to the sounds of the elephants as they pass.

Each of the five tents at Basecamp Wilderness offers the utmost privacy to guests. The beds are comfortable and are fitted with white linen and luxurious duvets. The bedroom area has plenty of storage space – and there is counter space too, where you can place your belongings. The en-suite facilities consist of bio-flush toilet, a sink, and a traditional safari shower, heated on request. Each tent also has a private outside seating area, with deck chairs overlooking the savanna. This is truly authentic accommodation.

ACTIVITIES AT BASECAMP WILDERNESS:

Activities from the Camp are ace.

  • An early morning game drive is wonderful for watching the sun rise, while evening drives are ideal for enjoying the sunset. And all the while you can check out the local wildlife – lion, elephant, giraffe, wildebeest, zebra, and even the rare wild dog!
  • Night drives present an awesome opportunity to get to know the area’s elusive nocturnal species, the Maasai will teach you about tracking methods too!
  • Alternatively, you can view the area from up high by taking a hot air balloon ride – float over the beautiful landscape, enjoy a bush breakfast with sparkling wine, and end with a game drive, returning to camp around mid-morning.
  • For further info on local ways, you can visit the local community to enjoy cultural talks and storytelling around the camp fire. There really is a lot to pack in during your stay!

*Although Basecamp Wilderness offers walking safaris, these are operated without firearms and take place in big game areas. So we don't recommend our clients go on these safari walks.

**This property is unfenced and located in a wildlife area, so large and potentially dangerous animals do pass through. If you opt to stay here, always be alert when walking around the camp and request for a member of staff to escort you if you have any concerns. Any guest is escorted after dark as a matter of course.
