When To Visit Malindi and Watamu Beach:

Medina Palms is a peaceful and luxurious resort overlooking the beach alongside Watamu Marine National Park.

Due to that fab kids club at Medina Palms, we give the resort a huge thumbs-up for families! However, with all those accommodation options, everyone is comfortable here – and the beachside location is a big benefit too.

Just 20km from the busier town of Malindi and an hour’s drive north of Mombasa, this elegant complex of suites and beachfront villa provides first-rate service – many guests make a return trip!

The communal buildings at Medina Palms are situated within a pretty tropical garden. The resort’s outdoor pool provides an elegant place to lower your body temperature and survey your beautiful surroundings. The open-air restaurant provides fine dining in the great outdoors! Guests have their pick of two fantastic bars with lounge areas, as well as an outdoor snack bar, shaded by trees. If you are hoping to get the blood pumping, there is a gym on site – alternatively, to unwind, you can enjoy a treatment or two at the rooftop spa! And young children are kept well entertained at fun kids club Nemo’s Cave. Activities here include arts and crafts, music, and story time, with experienced nannies in a safe environment.

Medina Palms’ guest suites are spacious and super-chic. Many boast a kitchen and comfy lounge area, in addition to a private veranda for sitting with the sun on your face and a drink in your hand! Some of the suites have grand four-poster beds, while others have rooftop terraces and private plunge pools. Room service is available throughout the accommodation, so you can arrange for food and drinks to be brought right to your door. There are two areas – The Palmerie and The Medina – and options range from one- and two-bedroom suites to three-, four- and five-bedroom villas! There is also a two-bedroom penthouse and a three-bedroom ocean lodge.

Watamu, although quieter than neighbouring Malindi, is a brilliant beach getaway. Just next door is the spectacular Watamu Marine National Park, offering a wide range of activities. These include day trips out into the Indian Ocean to be taught how to dive and snorkel. Some of the best beaches in Africa are right on the doorstep of the resort – the beachfront villas have access to the Indian Ocean after a few short steps! Out on the open water, you can book onto traditional dhow cruises, either during the day or for sunset.

Adrenaline-packed water sports are also available, as is big game fishing with experienced guides. In the town itself there are a number of interesting and highly rated seafood restaurants and bars – including a few that stay open for disco dancing late at night! For a bit of culture, guests can take a 6km trip out of town to the ancient lost town of Gedi. This traditional Swahili town is now deserted, its crumbling ruins suggesting a glorious past – it is well worth a visit!
