"This stylish boutique lodge is on a secluded beach away from the main busier part of Diani. We love this place – it is owner run, incredibly charming, and full of character. It is pricey – but if budget allows, it is a great addition to any itinerary."

OVERVIEW:

The property is owned by Swedish people and its Swahili name translates as ‘Our Home at Kinondo’. For YZ, the location of Kinondo Kwetu is a major draw – then factor in that Swahili style and amazing range of activities and you have something to really write home about! One of the best properties in the Diani Beach area.

ACCESS & LOCATION:

This is a remote location – and as the neighbouring land is a holy site, there are no plans to build further hotels in the area.

ACCOMMODATION & FACILITIES:

The hotel is surrounded by plants and trees, which adds to the private feel of the property. The foliage thins towards the shoreline of Galu Beach, opening up to a beautiful stretch of white sand with swaying palm trees and sparkling turquoise waters. This is the perfect place to relax and while away the hours, reclining on a sunlounger and watching the dhows sail by! Alternatively, guests can enjoy two swimming pools, one close to the beach and the other nearer the large house that contains the lounge, dining area and bar. This house, with its whitewashed walls and thatched roof, is very Swahili in style – and plenty of attention to detail has been applied inside too, to create an authentic African flavour! All the comfy sofas, cushions, coffee tables, dining tables and chairs, artwork and artefacts epitomise Swahili, enhanced by the immense veranda that provides a further space to sit, eat, drink and take in the amazing views.

Kinondo Kwetu offers a range of accommodation options, from garden rooms to sea-view suites to cottages just 30 metres from the beach! The garden rooms are located within the hotel’s Mama Tina Villa – there are two single rooms and one double, all furnished in similar style to the main house and equipped with bed net, ceiling fan and en-suite facilities. The Mama Taa Villa has six double rooms, four of which connect to a twin room to provide a spacious family unit. Families might also like to consider either of the two suites, Borelius and Andersson, as these are also very roomy and benefit from lovely sea views. Guests looking to book something special will love the hotel’s cottages, with their wooden verandas and amazing locations either close to the beach or bordering the sacred land that includes a mysterious forest. For more information on any of the guest accommodation, just give us a call!

*For families with children under the age of 6 years, we always request a ground floor room or a room without a balcony for safety reasons. If you stay here with us, please ensure this is what you are given.*

**Please be aware that the swimming pool here has no 'No Diving' signs, so take care before you jump in!**

ACTIVITIES:

The hotel also offers a range of activities. Loads of watersports are available here – snorkelling and boat excursions, scuba diving, Hobie Cat sailing, windsurfing, kitesurfing, stand-up paddle surfing, kayaking, traditional sailing, waterskiing, wakeboarding, and deep sea fishing too! Kinondo Kwetu has its own dive master and diving equipment on site – and beginners can train in the larger swimming pool. There is lots to do on land as well! The hotel also has its own stable, so horse riding is possible – it is wonderful to gallop along Galu Beach by moonlight.

Keen tennis players will love playing on Kinondo Kwetu’s plexipave hard court, while enthusiastic golfers can enjoy a round or a few at the Leisure Lodge Golf Club, just 15 minutes from the hotel. There is even skateboarding at Kinondo Kwetu Skate Park! An assortment of wildlife excursions and cultural visits is available also – to Shimba Hills Safari Park, Kinondo Village and Kinondo Kaya, a holy place. Finally, you can take part in an activity known as ‘Hug a Snake!’
