Our ‘luxury’ price bracket includes some of the most expensive safaris we sell. Needless to say, these trips are first class! They use some of the best properties in Africa and guarantee exceptionally high levels of comfort, guiding, food and service.

How much do our luxury safaris cost?

Our luxury safaris start at approximately $10,000 per person… with some going up significantly higher than that! With our luxury safaris, it's not just the accommodation that needs to be considered, but also the mode of transport. When you are travelling between camps, light aircraft transfers are an option – and this choice of transport will certainly enhance your experience by affording spectacular views of the wilderness areas! And, of course, travel by air significantly reduces time spent on the road. On another level, the convenience and efficiency of chartering your own private jet – scheduled to depart at the exact time that suits you for arrival at your next National Park – must be the epitome of luxury! This method of travel will allow you to cover more ground in less time, while, most importantly, giving you the freedom to encounter the very best of Africa.

If you prefer a more exclusive and personal safari experience, then paying a supplement for a guaranteed private game drive will enable you to have more of an influence on where you explore as well as increased flexibility. You do not have to reach a compromise with other guests on where to go, what to look for, and how long to spend at each sighting. If you have a particular photography or wildlife interest, then we can match you with an experienced specialist driver/guide to ensure your requirements are met. Additionally, there are often no age limits for a private guided safari, making this an awesome option for families! It is worth noting that there are a few camps, such as the Serian properties in the Serengeti and in the Maasai Mara, where a private vehicle is offered as part of the standard package.

What are the properties like and what experience can I expect?

It goes without saying that the majority of camps, lodges and hotels at this price tag are all 5 star and are some of the best properties in Africa. The experience these properties offer, from the food and service to the sheer quality of your accommodation, is as good as you will find anywhere on the continent! Unless you are staying at an adventurous tented camp, you will find that the properties we use tend to have swimming pools, various locations for meals, and accommodation standards to rival any boutique hotel in London or New York.

One of the biggest differences between our classic and luxury categories is the space that you have in your own room! Many classic properties, albeit superb, have rooms that are little more than places to sleep. At the luxury level, balconies, terraces and private plunge pools come as standard, allowing guests to relax privately in the heat of the day.

The guiding standards in properties like this deserve their own special mention. The companies running properties at this price level are sending their guides on extensive training courses – for the guides themselves, this is a big plus point. The resulting levels of guiding are obviously some of the very best!

Examples of some of our most popular luxury safaris

We focus on safaris that showcase the highlights of each destination and we include a cross-country safari that covers the majority of Africa’s highlights.

Tanzania: Northern Highlights & Zanzibar (13N) – This safari includes Tanzania’s main highlights: the Serengeti, to witness the wildebeest Great Migration, Tarangire, to see the incredible scenery, and the wildlife-rich volcanic caldera of Ngorongoro! The trip finishes with a few days on Zanzibar to relax.

South Africa: Cape Town, Winelands, Timbavati & Sabi Sands (12n) – Cape Town, the Winelands and two of South Africa’s finest private safari reserves – the Sabi Sands and the Timbavati – combine to create one of our most popular safaris!

Kenya: Samburu National Reserve & Maasai Mara (7n)– Focusing on Kenya’s Maasai Mara and the Samburu region, this is a fantastic trip to the home of safari itself!

Vic Falls & Botswana Highlights (10n) – This safari includes Victoria Falls, the Linyanti region of northern Botswana, and finally the Okavango Delta. Botswana is well respected as one of the purist safari destinations – this is arguably the ultimate safari country but also the most expensive one!

Victoria Falls & Zambia Highlights (11n) – This safari focuses on the Luangwa Valley and the wonderful Lower Zambezi. Offering a significantly less expensive trip than nearby Botswana, this safari is superb value and a trip that uses some of our favourite safari lodges in Africa!

Zimbabwe Highlights (9n) – A real favourite within the industry, Zimbabwe offers adventure in abundance! Starting at Victoria Falls, this safari continues to Hwange National Park and finally Mana Pools.

Namibia Highlights Flying Safari (8n) – Starting in the sand dunes of Sossusvlei, this flying safari moves up the coast to the Skeleton Coast National Park itself! The final few days are spent searching for the ‘Big Five’ in the Ongava Reserve and Etosha National Park.
