This solo trip provides some great game viewing in and around the amazing South Luangwa National Park! Starting in the Mfuwe area, it moves into the north of the park for an outstanding overall mix of walking safaris and game drives. The camps we use are small and intimate. There are no single supplements and there is a 10 per cent long-stay discount!

In Mfuwe, you will stay at Nkwali Camp, just outside the South Luangwa. This property provides a fine introduction to safari and it is very good value! Next, you will move into the Nsefu sector of the park, to Nsefu Camp. This is the oldest camp in the South Luangwa, with distinctive rondavel rooms! The trip ends at Tena Tena, also in Nsefu. Days 1-2 South Luangwa National Park (Mfuwe)

201003 RPS 664

On Day 1 of your trip, you will fly out to Mfuwe for a night at Nkwali Camp. Situated within a private reserve, on the banks of the River Luangwa, this smashing little camp is owned and operated by popular company Robin Pope Safaris. Most of the communal areas are housed in an open-sided timber, stone, and thatch structure, with a friendly atmosphere and beautiful river views. There is also a thatched dining space and a spacious swimming pool! Guest accommodation consists of six bamboo-and-thatch chalets, all with en-suite facilities as well as those river views. As each chalet is open fronted, you can enjoy scenes of elephant crossing the river and quenching their thirst without even leaving your room! Lion, leopard, and wild dog are often spotted in the area around camp too. However, venture out on a game drive or walking safari, and you will be richly rewarded with further sightings – including 450 species of bird! Other activities include visiting the local market and taking in a little culture on a village tour.

Board basis and activities:
Full-board accommodation, including all meals, all drinks except whiskies and champagne, all safari activities, and a laundry service.

Days 3-5 South Luangwa National Park (Nsefu)

Nsefu 01

On the third day of your trip, you will transfer by road to the Nsefu sector of the South Luangwa National Park, to Nsefu Camp. This property, the oldest in the park, was originally used for photographic safaris! To this day, it’s a pretty spectacular place to be. Set on a sweeping meander of the Luangwa river, the camp boasts breathtaking views. The communal lodge is positioned adjacent to an immense termite mound and has a pleasantly rustic style. There is even a hide close to camp, overlooking a lagoon. You could spend a lot of time taking photos here, as elephant and waterbuck visit very often! Other activities comprise game drives by day and by night, and walking safaris. There is plenty to see in Nsefu – for starters, lion, leopard, elephant, buffalo, giraffe, hippo, and more than 450 types of bird! As far as guest accommodation is concerned, Nsefu Camp has just six small rondavels, all with amazing views. Constructed from concrete, all are furnished simply yet appealingly, with comfy beds and well-appointed en-suite facilities at the back of each round house. The camp was taken over by Robin Pope Safaris in 1998, but its sense of history remains. As at Nkwali Camp, you can also enjoy cultural tours.

Board basis and activities:
Full-board accommodation, including all meals, all drinks (except champagne, fine wines, imported spirits), all safari activities, and a laundry service.

Days 6-8 South Luangwa National Park (Nsefu)

RPS 2012 09 60e

For the final part of your trip, you will transfer by road to Tena Tena. Also located in Nsefu, close to the river, this camp came first in Robin Pope’s property portfolio! Occupying an area of Nsefu that has a real wealth of wildlife, Tena Tena has an exciting adventurous vibe. The main areas are housed under canvas, within a marquee propped up by tree trunks as well as poles. They include two comfy seating areas and an all-day bar. There is a further seating area set up nearer to the river, a great spot for watching wildlife! Sandy paths connect the communal tent to each of the five guest tents, which also boast lovely views of the river. They feel very authentic, while providing everything you need for a comfortable stay – and we love the open-air en-suite shower rooms! Activities here consist of day and night game drives, walking safaris, and excursions to the local village too.

Board basis and activities:
Full-board accommodation, including all meals, all drinks (except champagne, fine wines, imported spirits), all safari activities, and a laundry service.

On Day 9, you will fly from Mfuwe to Lusaka and connect on to your international flight home.
