This itinerary is suitable for groups of up to eight persons, and families too! Involving the South Luangwa and the Lower Zambezi, it uses properties that offer a private vehicle and guide, as well as your very own chef!

Both the South Luangwa and Lower Zambezi national parks are great for game viewing. And the two properties used for this trip are booked on an exclusive basis, so you can decide where you want to go and what you want to see!

The adventure begins at Luangwa Safari House. This is a gorgeous property in the Mfuwe region of the South Luangwa National Park! And from there you will continue on to Old Mondoro, in the Lower Zambezi. This camp has a fabulous location on the banks of the Zambezi river – and it’s one of our top three camps in Africa!

Days 1-3 South Luangwa National Park

On Day 1 of your group trip, you will fly out to Mfuwe Airport, then transfer by road to Luangwa Safari House. This property is situated in the South Luangwa’s Mfuwe region, and it was designed by architect Neil Rocher. As you approach the house, it has the look of a castle! However, the back of the structure is open and provides breathtaking views over a seasonal lagoon and the Chindeni Hills beyond. Communal spaces include a super-spacious lounge, a plunge pool, and a terrace. The terrace links via a raised walkway to a wooden deck in the centre of the lagoon, offering excellent opportunities for watching the local wildlife! Luangwa Safari House has four comfortable en-suite bedrooms. Two on the ground floor boast a private veranda each, while two on the upper floor benefit from a private balcony. Activities available include day and night game drives, walking safaris, seasonal boating, and village tours. Wildlife highlights include lion, leopard, elephant, buffalo, giraffe, hippo, and hundreds of bird species!

Days 4-7 Lower Zambezi National Park

On the fourth day of your trip, you will fly to the Lower Zambezi! Here, you will stay at Old Mondoro. This camp is one of our favourites across all Safari Africa! Its location, on the banks of the mighty Zambezi river, is perfect – the views are exceptionally good. Built in the style of a traditional bush camp, Old Mondoro has a classic mess structure housing a comfy lounge and dining space. This structure is open sided, so you can relax and tuck into a delicious meal while watching the river and all the wildlife – elephant are particularly prevalent here! There is a camp fire too. The guest accommodation consists of four reed-and-canvas chalets, all with double bed or twin beds and en-suite facilities of flush toilet, washbasin, outdoor shower, and bath overlooking the river. This is not a luxurious property, but it really does have all the comforts you could desire – and a wonderful back-to-nature feel. It’s the ideal base for exploring the area, on day and night game drives, walks, and river safaris. Canoeing and fishing are also available! There is loads to see in the Lower Zambezi – predators such as lion, leopard, spotted hyena, and wild dog, and herbivores such as elephant, buffalo, wildebeest, zebra, and many antelope species. The bird count is impressive too!

On day 8, you will transfer to the Lower Zambezi and fly to Lusaka to connect on to your international flight home.
