  • Guide Price : £14,655 - based on a family of four

Our Zambia Family Safari at this classic level features the South Luangwa National Park and the Lower Zambezi. These two amazing safari parks combine dry game viewing with the waterways of the Zambezi. One of our most popular Zambia family safaris.

Our Zambia family classic trip is available for families with children aged 8 years and over. This is a fantastic safari, combining two amazing areas! It starts with wonderful walking and night drives in the South Luangwa. After that, you will have four nights in the Lower Zambezi, which offers walking safaris, boating, game drives, and canoeing. This diversity of activities is thrilling! Zambia offers some of the most authentic safari experiences, so a trip here is ideal for families looking for adventure rather than sheer luxury.

The two properties we use for the trip are Mchenja Bush Camp and Chongwe River Camp. Mchenja is situated on the banks of the Luangwa river, amidst a grove of ebony trees. Its guest accommodation includes a family unit, which can sleep up to three children! Chongwe is just outside the official boundary of the Lower Zambezi National Park, on the confluence of the Chongwe and Zambezi rivers. It too has accommodation suitable for families – a self-contained tented suite, no less! At both camps, there is plenty to keep everyone occupied.

*Please note, this is just one example of a trip we could design for you. We tailor-make safari holidays that take you to the real Africa – no readymade tours or set departures. Do get in touch with one of our experts today to start creating your bespoke itinerary!*

Days 1–4 South Luangwa National Park

NCS Mchenja 2013 31.1 MR

On the first day of your trip, you will fly out to the South Luangwa National Park and transfer to Mchenja Bush Camp. Mchenja means ‘ebony’, and the camp’s setting under ebony trees is lovely for the shade it provides. The Luangwa river rushes along a nearby bend in the watercourse, attracting a lot of thirsty wildlife! The main areas are constructed around a fallen ebony tree, bestowing a rather magical feel. Both the lounge and dining areas are comfortable, and the camp’s plunge pool is great for a splash-about in the heat of the day! Mchenja has a family unit containing two bedrooms, able to accommodate two adults and up to three children. Activities focus on day and night game drives and walking safaris.

Board basis and activities:
Full-board accommodation including two guided safaris daily, all meals, standard bar drinks, transfers to and from Mfuwe Airport, and a full laundry service.

Days 5–8 Lower Zambezi National Park

DSC 0311

For the second half of your family safari, you will fly to Chongwe River Camp. Situated just outside the Lower Zambezi National Park, the camp has beautiful views of the river confluence as well as the escarpment to the rear. The main areas are super-comfortable and incorporate a termite mound into their design! Meals are often enjoyed al fresco, on the riverbanks, while watching the local wildlife. Guest accommodation consists of eight tents and two suites – we recommend the Albida suite, which is self-contained and features two bedrooms, a lounge, a fire pit, and your very own plunge pool! As at Mchenja, activities are centred on game drives, walking safaris, boat trips and canoeing.

Board basis and activities:
Fully inclusive of all activities, meals, selected house alcoholic drinks, soft drinks, and a laundry service.

On Day 9, you will fly to Lusaka and connect on to your international flight/s home.
