Designed with the adventurous traveller in mind, this trip will appeal to the seasoned safari-goer who is passionate about wildlife! It’s based in and around Odzala-Kokoua National Park, home of the wonderful western lowland gorillas.

This trip uses two fantastic properties. First, you’ll stay for three nights at Ngaga Camp. Situated close to Odzala-Kokoua in the Ndzehe Concession, Ngaga provides excellent access into the national park and adventurous stilted accommodation! And your last night will be spent at Mboko Camp, a comfortable property within the park with lovely views over the River Likeni. Excitingly, solo travellers do not pay a single surcharge on flights, and the single supplement at both camps is reduced to 25 per cent for departures on the first Monday and first Thursday of every month.

While you’re at Ngaga, you’ll embark on some thrilling gorilla treks, through Odzala-Kokoua’s beautiful forest. At Mboko, you’ll have the option of enjoying a great range of safari activities – expertly guided game drives, walking safaris, boating, mountain biking, and adventure trails!

Days 1-3 ODZALA-KOKOUA NATIONAL PARK

On Day 1 of your trip, you’ll touch down in the Republic of the Congo’s Maya-Maya international airport in Brazzaville and fly out to the airstrip in Odzala-Kokoua. From here, you’ll transfer by road to the Ndzehe Concession, for Ngaga Camp. Described as ‘gorilla central’, this camp is the perfect base from which to meet the magnificent mammals! It’s set in dense forest, and all of its structures are raised high above ground level for an exhilarating treehouse feel. Communal areas include a comfortable lounge, dining area, star-deck, and river deck. You’ll stay in one of the camp’s six chalets. This accommodation features double bed or twin beds, cosy seating area, well-appointed en-suite facilities, and 360-degree views from a private deck! As well as gorilla treks from camp, you can enjoy birdwatching, nature trails, night walks, stream swims, and village visits (some at extra cost). The area’s additional wildlife highlights include forest elephant, buffalo, giant forest hog, and a few primates – De Brazza’s monkey, Angolan talapoin, mantled guereza, and Tana River mangabey. There’s also a treasure trove of colourful birdlife!

Day 4 ODZALA-KOKOUA NATIONAL PARK

On the fourth day of your holiday, you’ll transfer by road from the Ndzehe Concession into Odzala-Kokoua National Park. Your next and final stop on the trip is Mboko Camp. This property is fabulously located close to a bai, a shallow depression full of herbs and sedges that attract a lot of herbivores! Guests can relax in the pleasantly furnished lounge and tuck in to their own delicious meals in the chic dining area, all the while watching the local buffalo. Mboko also has a well-stocked bar and a viewing deck complete with fire-pit. You’ll spend your one night here in one of the 12 canvas cabins, enjoying amazing views over the Likeni river. Each cabin has double or twin bed/s, a smart en-suite shower room, and a lovely private veranda. Activities on offer consist of game drives, walking safaris, boat trips, bike tours, and adventure trails. As well as buffalo, the park’s interesting assortment of wildlife includes hyena, serval, aardvark, bushbuck, Grimms’ duiker, red river hog, slender-snouted and dwarf crocodiles, lots of primate species, and ample birdlife.

On Day 5, you’ll transfer from Mboko to Odzala-Kokoua’s airstrip and return to the international airport at Brazzaville in time for your international flight/s home.
