This Great Migration river-crossing trip occurs from July-October and takes you to off-the-beaten-track Tarangire and mother of all safari parks the Serengeti! You can expect excellent game viewing and guiding from some seriously authentic camps.

The adventure starts in Tarangire, one of the lesser-known national parks within Tanzania’s famous Northern Circuit, before moving to the fantastic Serengeti where you will witness the Great Migration's river-crossing season. Both areas contain very high concentrations of wildlife, and we have chosen two superb properties for you to enjoy! The trip is also suitable for couples, groups, and families.

You will begin at Tarangire’s Sanctuary Swala. Situated in a remote region, this is the most luxurious property in the park! And for the second part of your trip, you will stay at Serian’s Serengeti North Camp. The price of your stay here includes use of a private vehicle and private guide – and at extra cost, you can enjoy the Serengeti on foot!

Days 1-2 TARANGIRE NATIONAL PARK

On the first day of your trip, you will fly out to Kilimanjaro International Airport, before flying on to Kuro airstrip for Tarangire (50 mins). From here, you’ll have a shared road transfer to Sanctuary Swala. This property is owned by Sanctuary Retreats, specialists in luxury adventure travel! The lodge has a lovely location, amidst immense acacia trees. Communal spaces feature plenty of comfy sofas, so you can sit back and enjoy views of wildlife at a nearby waterhole and on the plains beyond. Swala has an infinity pool too! Your accommodation consists of one of 12 canvas pavilions. Shaded by trees, each pavilion overlooks the waterhole from a private veranda. Inside, the tents are beautifully furnished, and amenities include complimentary Wi-Fi! Swala offers great game drives, as well as walking safaris and night drives. There is loads to see in the park – lion, leopard, cheetah, hyena, jackal, wild dog, wildebeest, zebra, lots of types of antelope, and hundreds of species of bird. And you might well witness Tarangire’s elephant migration, when about three thousand grey guys move across the park in search of water!

Board basis and activities:
Accommodation is booked on a game-package basis, including all meals, all drinks excluding premium brands, two daily shared game-viewing activities, return transfers to and from Swala’s airstrip and camp, and a laundry service.

Days 3-6 SERENGETI NATIONAL PARK

On Day 3, you will return to Kuro airstrip via shared road transfer. You’ll fly to Kogatende Airstrip (1 hr 45 mins), before your shared road transfer to Serian’s Serengeti North Camp. Owned by top guide Alex Walker, the Serian’s camps aim to showcase the Great Migration, which involves huge herds of wildebeest, zebra, and gazelles. North Camp’s communal lounge, dining area, and bar are housed in a classic mess tent – all spaces are very comfortable, featuring plush sofas and snug rugs. Outside, there is a fire-pit area, which is fantastic for getting to know your fellow travellers and swapping safari stories! You’ll stay in a safari tent, which offers large wrought-iron bed, writing desk and chair, and en-suite facilities comprising flush toilet, washstand, and bucket shower. Thrilling days at Serian are guaranteed, as you’ll enjoy watching the Great Migration’s famous river crossings. The guiding is exceptionally good, both on drives and on walking safaris!

Board basis and activities:
Full-board accommodation, including all meals, selected house alcoholic drinks, soft drinks, game drives from a private open-sided 4×4 game drive vehicle, and a laundry service.

On Day 7, you’ll have a shared road transfer back to the local airstrip, before flying to Kilimanjaro International Airport (3 hours 5 minutes) in time for your flight/s home.
