Our introductory trip to Tanzania takes in the highlights and hidden gems of the famous Northern Circuit. Starting in the remote Tarangire National Park, you’ll also visit the Ngorongoro Crater and the Serengeti, before flying out to Zanzibar!

The adventure begins at Tarangire Ndovu Tented Lodge, a property providing authentic accommodation within the central region of Tarangire National Park. After a couple of nights there, you’ll fly to the Ngorongoro region, for your stay at The Plantation Lodge. Situated within its own coffee plantation and working farm, this is a five-star option in the Karatu area. Next up is Nasikia Mobile Migration Camp (Kogatende), an exciting camp in the northern region of the Serengeti. And while you’re on Zanzibar, you’ll stay at Breezes Beach Club & Spa, the island’s oldest and most established resort!

While you’re at Tarangire’s Ndovu Tented Lodge, you’ll enjoy vehicle and walking safaris, community and cultural visits, and, at extra cost, hot air balloon safaris. The safari focus continues at both The Plantation Lodge and Nasikia’s Mobile Migration Camp, as both offer expertly guided game drives and walks. Cultural experiences are available at these properties too. Finally, Breezes Beach Club provides watersports such as diving and snorkelling, a variety of tours and excursions, and the opportunity for some laidback beach time.

Days 1–2 TARANGIRE NATIONAL PARK

On the first day of your holiday, you’ll touch down at Kilimanjaro International Airport, receiving a VIP Meet and Greet before flying to Kuro Airstrip – from here, you’ll have a shared road transfer to Tarangire Ndovu Tented Lodge. This is an adventurous property in the heart of Tarangire. Owned and run by the excellent Nasikia, its communal areas are housed in timber-and-thatch structures and include a comfortable lounge, dining area, and bar. The camp also has a gift shop, spa, fire-pit, and swimming pool! You’ll stay in one of the tented suites, which features a spacious bedroom, en-suite washroom with shower, and private deck with amazing views. Activities consist of expertly guided game drives, walking safaris, community and cultural visits, and hot air balloon safaris (at extra cost). Tarangire’s sprawling plains, open woodland, riverine forest, and water sources are home to a real wealth of wildlife – four of the Big Five (lion, leopard, elephant, buffalo), numerous smaller predators and herbivores, and hundreds of types of bird!

Days 3–4 NGORONGORO CONSERVATION AREA

On Day 3, you’ll leave Ndovu, returning to Kuro Airstrip via shared road transfer and flying to Lake Manyara Airport. On arrival, you’ll be met by a private guide, in a private vehicle. Both the guide and the vehicle will be with you throughout your stay in the Ngorongoro region, making for highly exclusive vehicle safaris! On your way to The Plantation Lodge, you’ll stop off at Lake Manyara National Park for a game drive. One of the most scenic areas in Africa, this park features an immense expanse of water against a spectacular Rift Valley backdrop, and wildlife highlights including vibrant flocks of flamingo and svelte tree-climbing lions. After the drive, you’ll continue on to the lodge, a charming property situated within the foothills of the Ngorongoro Crater. Its communal lounge and dining areas are found in a colonial-style building, amidst beautifully kept gardens in which you can tuck in to meals or simply enjoy a stroll. The accommodation option we’ve chosen for you is the Standard Room, which features a pleasant bedroom, seating area with fireplace, well-appointed en-suite facilities, and gorgeous garden views. During your second day here, you’ll head down into the crater for a game drive. Here you can look out for all Big Five, lots of smaller mammals, and ample birdlife! Plantation also offers guided walks among its coffee plantations and visits to a local farm.

Days 5–8 Serengeti National Park

Come Day 5, your private guide will drive you from The Plantation Lodge to Lake Manyara Airstrip, and you’ll catch a flight to the Serengeti’s Kogatende Airstrip. Once you’ve landed here, you’ll travel to Nasikia Mobile Migration Camp (Kogatende) via shared road transfer. This adventurous property follows the Great Migration throughout the year! Its communal spaces have a very authentic vibe, and guests enjoy breathtaking views over savanna while relaxing and tucking in to meals. The camp also has a nightly wood fire, which is perfect for evening gatherings. Every guest tent offers a large bedroom, en-suite facilities including al fresco bucket shower, and an outside patio area. Among the things to do from Nasikia are vehicle and walking safaris. During the period from July to October, the Great Migration’s huge herds of wildebeest, zebra, and gazelles push up into the North Serengeti in their search for food. There’s a lot of other wildlife to spot, not least all the big cats – lion, leopard, and cheetah! And, if you wish, you can take to the skies in a hot air balloon, for the ultimate bird’s-eye view of all the animal action.

Days 9–13 Zanzibar

Now it’s time for your beach break! You’ll return to the Serengeti’s Kogatende Airstrip via shared road transfer and fly out to the international airport on Zanzibar. On landing, you’ll transfer privately to Breezes Beach Club & Spa. Situated on the south-east coast of the island, Breezes is ideal for a little relaxation after your safari. The resort includes some first-rate restaurants, a spa, and a swimming pool! You’ll stay in one of the standard rooms, which features a comfy bedroom with air conditioning, smart en-suite facilities, and a private terrace with garden views. Things to do here include watersports such as diving, snorkelling, kayaking, windsurfing, kite surfing, and sailing, in addition to reef walks, bike rides, and a great range of beach activities – sunbathing, sandcastle building, Frisbee, volleyball, and football! And you can have a lot of fun exploring Zanzibar, visiting Stone Town, the Jozani Forest, and any of the island’s fascinating spice farms.

Half-board accommodation, including breakfast and dinner, use of gym and tennis court, and internet in public areas and rooms. 

On the last day of your trip, you’ll have a private road transfer from Breezes Beach Club & Spa to Zanzibar’s international airport, arriving in good time for your flight/s home.
