Days 1–5 CAPE TOWN

ellerman house, bantry bay, cape town safaris

Once you’ve arrived in Cape Town, your luxury South Africa itinerary starts with a four-night stay at Ellerman House. Offering discreet glamour, this Edwardian mansion has one of the most important collections of South African art woven throughout the rooms and hallways. When you aren’t staring at the collection on the walls, your eyes will be trained on the horizon, as this property overlooks the Atlantic Ocean and affluent area of Bantry Bay. The property has expansive gardens, a heated lap pool, a library, a gym, a spa, a dining room, and even its own wine cellar. If you can bear to leave the grounds, Ellerman House is also a great base from which to explore the Mother City. You can go on adventurous activities such as mountain walks, 4x4 dune experiences, and urban tours, continue on the art exploration by visiting the Silo or going on Art & Wine tours, or discover the culture with a Bo-Kaap walking tour. Cape Town is full of things to do – you can also check out the V&A Waterfront, Kirstenbosch National Botanical Garden, and all the bars, cafés, and restaurants of this exhilarating city.

Singita is a famous name in luxury safari, and this property has everything you could desire for a very comfortable stay. We love the amazing views over the Singita Reserve, including the Sand River that flows by! Communal spaces include a plush lounge complete with tribal artefacts, a dining room, a library, and an exceedingly well-stocked wine cellar. You’ll stay in one of the suites, which includes a beautifully decorated deluxe bedroom, a private sitting room, a game-viewing deck, and your very own plunge pool! From this lavish base, you can enjoy game drives, guided safari walks, and a visit to the Sabi Sands anti-poaching canine unit. It is worth spending time relaxing back in camp to take advantage of the spa and gym with a view, not to mention the wine tasting experience on offer. A stay at Tswalu is all about experiencing the wonders of the desert in total exclusivity. With a guaranteed private vehicle, you’ll spend your days going at your own pace on the expertly guided game drives and on the walking and horse-riding safaris.
