Cape Town and Madikwe is one of our most popular family safaris! Starting with More Quarters in the City Bowl area of Cape Town, your family can explore everything the Cape has to offer before setting off for your Big Five safari in Madikwe.

The properties we use are More Quarters and Madikwe Lelapa Lodge, both from the portfolio of MORE, a family company. More Quarters is a stylish self-catering collection of 19 apartments and a four-bedroom house in a quiet street at the heart of Cape Town. And Madikwe Lelapa Lodge is fab for families, with comfy suite accommodation and a very long list of children’s activities too!

More Quarters is perfectly positioned for you to head out and explore many of the Mother City’s main attractions, and farther afield if you wish. Things to do from Madikwe Lelapa include expertly guided game drives, birding, village visits, and special bush orientation for children! Both destinations are malaria free.

Days 1–4 Cape Town

For the first part of your family trip, you will fly to Cape Town! You’ll touch down at the city’s international airport, receiving a VIP Meet and Greet. From here, you’ll have a private road transfer to the V&A Waterfront and on to More Quarters, where you’ll stay for four nights. Children of all ages are welcome here! Families of up to two adults and two children are well accommodated in a two-bedroom luxury apartment. This option is individually decorated and includes a kitchen area, lounge, and bathroom, as well as amenities such as room service and satellite television. More Quarters is a brilliant base from which to explore Cape Town. The famous Kloof Street, with its shops, restaurants, and cafés, is within walking distance, as is the city’s majestic Table Mountain. And all sorts of other excursions are possible – to the V&A, to the Two Oceans Aquarium, to Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens. Staff at More Quarters are happy to help you get the most out of your stay in this magical city, as part of the superb service they provide!

Days 5–8 Madikwe Game Reserve

On Day 5, you’ll return to Cape Town International Airport via private road transfer and fly to O. R. Tambo International Airport, Johannesburg (1 hr 55 mins), before flying on to Madikwe Airstrip (1 hr). Finally, you’ll have a shared transfer to Madikwe Lepala Lodge. The word Lelapa means ‘family’, and this really is a very family-oriented property. There are no age restrictions and staff do their utmost to ensure everyone feels at home. The communal areas include a very comfortable lounge and dining room, with amazing views over the reserve. There’s also a swimming pool, perfect for splashing about! The family suite category is super-comfy too, featuring cosy wood-burning fireplace, indoor and outdoor showers, and your very own plunge pool. When it comes to activities, Lelapa is pretty special. The property has an eco-house – this is an educational and entertainment centre for kids and anyone with a fascination for the wild world and its inhabitants. Other children’s activities include bush orientation, family safari drives, bug CSI, dung tracking, track pack with plaster of Paris, baking in the kitchen, making pizzas in the boma, star gazing, games night, and even washing the safari vehicle! There really is a massive amount of things to do, in this brilliant Big Five setting. And the staff are happy to look after kids while the parents go on safari or slip away for some R&R.

All-inclusive accommodation, featuring all meals, a selection of alcoholic and soft drinks, in-room mini-bar, two game drives daily with FGASA-accredited field guide and tracker, game drive refreshments and snacks, bush breakfasts, picnic lunches, bush dinners, bush walks, stargazing, wildlife lectures, children’s activities, transfers between the lodge and Madikwe Airstrip, and Wi-Fi.

On Day 9, you will transfer to Johannesburg for your international flight home.
