Lowland Gorilla Tracking in the Republic of the Congo (7N)

On the first day of your trip, you’ll fly out to the Republic of the Congo’s Maya-Maya international airport in Brazzaville. From here, you’ll take a flight to the airstrip in Odzala-Kokoua before transferring by road to Ngaga Camp in the Ndzehe Concession. This camp is the ideal base from which to enjoy encounters with the majestic mammals! Set in dense forest, all of its structures are raised into the treeline for an adventurous treehouse feel. You’ll stay in one of six guest chalets. Each chalet has a double bed or twin beds, a comfy seating area, smart en-suite facilities, and a private deck with 360-degree views! Ngaga’s communal areas feature a pleasant lounge, dining area, star deck, and river deck. On days 2 and 3, you’ll venture out on gorilla treks and forest walks. Wildlife highlights in the concession include forest elephant, buffalo, giant forest hog, and primates such as De Brazza’s monkey, Angolan talapoin, mantled guereza, and Tana River mangabey. There’s also ample vibrant birdlife!

On Day 4 of your holiday, you’ll have a leisurely morning before leaving Ngaga Camp and transferring by road to Mboko Camp, within Odzala-Kokoua. This property has a wonderful location overlooking a bai, a shallow depression full of herbs and sedges. The bai attracts a lot of herbivores, not least hefty buffalo! You’ll be able to enjoy some wildlife viewing while relaxing in the camp’s pleasant lounge and tucking in to tasty meals in the elegant dining area. Mboko has a well-stocked bar too, and a viewing deck incorporating a fire-pit. Your one night here will be spent in one of the camp’s 12 canvas cabins. Every standard cabin offers double or twin bed/s, well-appointed en-suite facilities, and a private veranda with spectacular views over the Likeni river! You’ll take part in a lovely river cruise, which offers sightings of wildlife both in and out of the water. The park is home to hyena, serval, aardvark, bushbuck, Grimms’ duiker, red river hog, slender-snouted and dwarf crocodiles, lots of primate species, and hundreds of birds.

The fifth day of your trip sees you transfer to Odzala-Kokoua’s Lango Camp via kayak safari! This is a brilliant opportunity to observe the park’s wildlife again. Once you’ve arrived at camp, you’ll be able to relax in the central lounge and dining areas while marvelling at beautiful views over Lango Bai. There are six timber-and-thatch dome-roof chalets here, all elevated on 3- to 4-metre stilts for that outdoorsy treehouse vibe. Each chalet features double bed or twin beds, en-suite washroom, and private deck with a table and chairs. During your first afternoon here, you’ll enjoy a guided walk around the bai. The next day will be spend watching birds, walking in the forest, and strolling around the bai once more, to ensure you see a wealth of wildlife.

Day 7 starts with a little relaxation, before you transfer by road back to Mboko. Here you’ll have time for one more river cruise – and some swimming too!

On Day 8 of your trip, you’ll transfer by road from Mboko to Odzala-Kokoua’s airstrip. Then you’ll fly to Brazzaville’s international airport in time for your flight/s home.
