This trip is designed to provide the ultimate in adventurous safari! All the properties we use are great value for solo travellers, especially during the green season in the case of the Serian camps. They also offer communal dining, which is ideal for getting to know your fellow explorers. The itinerary includes five nights in the Maasai Mara area, and if you are here from July to October you may well witness the Great Migration storm through!

The trip begins at Ololo Safari Lodge, a farmhouse on the southern border of Nairobi National Park. Next, you will fly to Kicheche Laikipia, a great-value property within the wildlife-rich Ol Pejeta Conservancy. The third stop on your safari is Nkorombo Serian Camp, a rustic mobile camp on the east bank of the River Mara. Finally, you will stay three nights at Ngare Serian, which is on the west bank of the river within the Mara North Conservancy, with beautiful views!

Day 1 Nairobi

On Day 1 of your adventure, you will fly out to Nairobi and then transfer by road to Ololo Safari Lodge. This farmhouse property is great for relaxing after your flight! The communal areas are comfortable and spacious, with amazing views of Nairobi National Park and the Ngong Hills beyond. From the five options of guest accommodation, we recommend either a Stable Room or Tented Cottage for solo travellers – the Stable Room oozes character, while the Tented Cottage has an authentic safari feel! Ololo offers all sorts of activities. You can visit the national park or enjoy checking out a variety of local attractions, such as the David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust.

Days 2–4 Laikipia

On the second day, you will fly to Laikipia for two nights at Kicheche Laikipia. Situated in the Ol Pejeta Conservancy, this property boasts breathtaking views across the plains as far as majestic Mount Kenya on the horizon! The communal facilities are found in a large mess tent among trees. The lounge, with its comfy seating around a chunky coffee table, has a pleasant social vibe, while the adjoining dining area has a big wooden table for everyone to sit around together. Kicheche has six tented rooms, all modest from the outside and beautifully decorated within! Activities feature day and night game drives, game walks, lion tracking, and visits to a chimpanzee sanctuary and a white rhino sanctuary! With canoeing, hiking, and mountain biking also on offer, a stay here is a real treat.

Days 5–6 Maasai Mara National Reserve

The adventure continues with a flight to the Maasai Mara National Reserve, to Nkorombo Serian Camp. This is a mobile camp, situated on a private site on the east bank of the Mara river. The communal tent has a lovely location among trees and provides thrilling views of wildlife coming to drink and crossing the water. As well as a lounge and dining space, there is a barbecue area, complete with hippo-shaped barbecue! This gives the camp an informal and friendly feel. Each of the five guest tents is simple yet comfortable, with en-suite facilities that include the classic bucket shower! Activities at Nkorombo centre on game drives, with expert guides who are keen to show you the best of the Reserve. If you come here from July to October, you will see the spectacular sights of the Great Migration! However, if you are unable to travel during these months, do not worry: the Reserve is choc-a-bloc with wildlife all year round.

Days 7–9 Mara North Conservancy

For the final part of your safari, you will transfer by road to the Mara North Conservancy, to another Serian camp – Ngare Serian! The word Ngare means ‘by the river’; and sure enough, the property has a lovely location between the Mara river and the escarpment behind. Accessed via a swing bridge, Ngare has an adventurous feel! The communal areas are housed in a classic mess tent. The lounge is super-comfy and the dining room has a long table for those lively communal meals! There is a deck too – this features a brazier for sitting around in the cool of evening and sharing safari stories. The guest accommodation consists of four very spacious tents, so spacious that they are referred to as the marquees! Inside, there are all the creature comforts you could desire, including a bathtub with views of the river. As at Nkorombo, activities are focused on game drives. Mara North has a lot of wildlife to see, and you can even return to the Maasai Mara National Reserve if you wish to explore this area further! Ngare also offers guided walks, such as a trek up the escarpment. Other things to do include bush running, fishing, and fly camping at the property’s The Nest Treehouse, perfect for travellers who love sleeping under the stars!
