This Kenya couple safari is a classic Big Five safari to two of Kenya's best safari areas. We start in the Lewa Conservancy in the heart of Laikipia and end in the Maasai Mara itself. A luxurious safari, but one that offers very good value for money.

This trip to Kenya features a thrilling range of activities, including excellent Big Five game viewing and culture with the Maasai. Additionally, if you travel from July to October, you will witness the Great Migration! The first property you will visit is Nairobi’s Ololo Lodge, a characterful old farmhouse on the southern border of the city’s national park. Next is Lewa Safari Camp, a former cattle ranch that is now a fantastic eco-friendly property! After enjoying a lot of safari activities here, you will visit Sand River Masai Mara, a sumptuous 1920s-style camp with a lovely riverside location. Finally, you will stay at Elephant Pepper Camp in the Mara North Conservancy, an authentic little property with oodles of character!

Day 1 Nairobi

On the first day of your trip, you will fly out to Nairobi and transfer by road to Ololo Safari Lodge. This charming farmhouse property is the perfect place to relax following your flight and to enjoy a gentle introduction to being on safari! The communal areas are comfy and spacious, with amazing views of Nairobi National Park and the Ngong Hills beyond. The guest accommodation consists of a number of options, all very well appointed. We recommend a Tented Cottage, as this has a great safari feel! Ololo offers a full range of activities – whether you wish to visit the national park or spend the day checking out local attractions such as the David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust is entirely up to you.

Days 2–4 Lewa Wildlife Conservancy

For the next two nights of your trip, you will fly to Lewa Safari Camp, in Lewa Wildlife Conservancy. Formerly a cattle ranch, today this is an excellent eco-friendly property with a relaxed atmosphere. All communal areas are very comfortable, and there is a swimming pool as well as table tennis in the outdoor lounge area! The camp has eleven en-suite safari tents, all of which are thatch roofed and include a writing desk and a private veranda. Activities here are focused on game drives and guided walks, but you can also enjoy hiking in the beautiful Ngare Ndare Forest, horse riding, and even camel riding too!

Days 5–6 Maasai Mara National Reserve

The next part of your trip is spent in the Maasai Mara National Reserve, at Elewana’s Sand River camp – you will fly here from Lewa. This is a super-sumptuous 1920s-style property beside the river, spread out across two sites. Each site has a mess tent with a lavish lounge, smart dining spaces, and breathtaking views! The larger site boasts a plunge pool and a billiards room too. The 1920s theme continues into the guest accommodation, with each tent featuring a gorgeous four-poster bed, leather-and-brocade seating, and Persian rugs. Game drives into the Maasai Mara are available every day, to see an incredible wealth of wildlife. If you are here from July to October, you might well witness the famous Great Migration, when hundreds of thousands of wildebeest, zebra, and gazelles thunder through the area in search of good grazing! For travellers hoping to see all this from the air, the camp can organise hot air balloon safaris.

Days 7–9 Mara North Conservancy

For the final two nights, you will transfer by road to the Mara North Conservancy, to Elephant Pepper Camp. Situated within a small patch of forest on the plains, this small tented property has a classic safari feel and a fabulous reputation! The main areas are homely, with comfy sofas and superb views. The guest tents are simple, but they have everything you need to relax and enjoy the last part of the trip. Activities from Elephant Pepper centre on game drives, with short walking safaris and excursions to the local Maasai communities available also.
