“The highlight when staying at the Pangolin Chobe Hotel has to be the photographic boats that are fully customised to catch the best shot. Guests also get complementary DSLR cameras, lenses, and even some tuition if needed.”

OVERVIEW:

Pangolin Chobe Hotel is owned and run by Pangolin Photo Safaris. As this name suggests, the focus of activities from this hotel and other properties operated by the company is photographic safaris. One of the owners – Gerhard ‘Guts’ Swanepoel – is in fact an award-winning wildlife photographer! So if you’re interested in spending a lot of your time on safari taking pictures, this is the place to stay. The accommodation is booked on a full-board basis, including all meals, a selection of alcoholic and soft drinks, twice-daily photo safari activities, use of photographic equipment, park fees, and transfers between the hotel and Kasane Airport. The hotel is open throughout the year.

ACCESS & LOCATION:

The hotel can be accessed via just over 5 minutes’ road transfer from Kasane Airport. It’s situated on a plateau above the town, overlooking the Chobe river and beyond to Namibia’s Caprivi floodplains. The gate into Chobe National Park is a mere few hundred metres away.

ACCOMMODATION & FACILITIES AT THE PANGOLIN CHOBE HOTEL:

There are 14 guest rooms – nine with a king-size bed and the remaining five with twin beds. These are positioned within the hotel’s main building, a modern two-storey build. Accessed off the property’s wildlife photography gallery (see below), every room is chic and contemporary in style. As well as the bed or beds, you’ll find bedside stands and lighting, a couple of chairs, and ample storage space. In-room amenities include air conditioning, a tea-and-coffee station, a safe, plenty of charging points for your equipment, and a smart en-suite washroom. And every room has a private balcony – here, guests can relax and enjoy wonderful views over the waterfront and beyond!

The communal areas at Pangolin Chobe Hotel are also set out in the main structure. They too are chic and modern, with lots of clean lines. In the lounge, there’s well-cushioned seating, various occasional tables, and elegant lighting. A pangolin motif features a few times here! Adjoining the lounge is the property’s bar – you’ll find a pangolin here too, in addition to friendly staff offering a great range of beers, wines, cocktails, soft drinks, and coffees. Most meals are served on the spacious deck, which is also home to sunloungers, a U-shaped eco-pool, and, in the space within the U, a comfy fire-pit. Finally, the wildlife photography gallery comprises a fine assortment of pictures taken by resident photographic guides and other expert photographers who often stay at the hotel with friends to spend time in Chobe National Park. The gallery also has an editing suite, where, having captured your own magical moments, you can enjoy some post-production sessions!

**Please be aware that we are unable to book this property for families with young children under the age of 6 years, for safety reasons relating to the balconies.**

ACTIVITIES AT THE PANGOLIN CHOBE HOTEL:

Here’s a quick guide to the activities available from the hotel:

  • Photographic safaris

    - As mentioned, Pangolin Chobe is situated just a few hundred metres from the gate into Chobe National Park. This means that guests of the hotel are frequently among the first groups of safarists to enter the area in the morning, making for superb opportunities to take photos in relative peace and quiet. This is a highly scenic region of Botswana, characterised by sprawling plains, beautiful broadleaf woodlands, riverine forest, and water sources. Chobe is particularly famous for its impressive populations of elephant, but you can also look out for lion, leopard, buffalo, spotted hyena, giraffe, blue wildebeest, zebra, vervet monkey, and over 450 bird species! Every photographic safari is accompanied by an expert photographer, and each guest enjoys use of a Canon DSLR camera with telephoto lens and memory card.
  • Boating safaris

    - The hotel owns three 8-seater shallow-hull boats, all with customised gimbals and 360-degrees rotational seats. Board one of these, and you’ll have a terrific time exploring the waterways of Chobe, with chances to take photos of whole herds of elephant quenching their thirst on the banks and some vibrant waterbirds.
  • Expertly guided game drives

    - Traditional vehicle safaris are possible too! As with the other types of safari, a knowledgeable guide is on hand to show you the best of Chobe and to answer all your questions.
