"One of Africa’s most famous camps and the location of the very best game viewing in Botswana. Unbelievably good for game all year, Wilderness Mombo is a property that is often booked out over a year in advance. Best combined with a camp that offers the water activities the Delta is most famous for. Absolutely first class but seriously pricey."

OVERVIEW:

Wilderness Mombo is often described as the finest safari camp in Africa – and it has always been a favourite at YZ. The property will continue to be owned and operated by Wilderness, a company whose portfolio across Safari Africa includes a number of other five-star camps and lodges – Wilderness Ruckomechi (Zimbabwe), Wilderness Bisate (Rwanda), and, in Botswana’s Linyanti, Wilderness DumaTau. Wilderness Mombo is an elegant offering characterised by ultra-luxury and harmony with the natural surroundings.

HOW TO GET TO WILDERNESS MOMBO:

Chief’s Island is located within the Moremi Game Reserve, considered the beating heart of the Delta due to the astonishingly high concentrations of wildlife it contains! Access to Wilderness Mombo is available by charter flight from the international airport at Maun. The journey into Moremi is wonderfully scenic, offering the opportunity to look out for wildlife on the way!

ACCOMMODATION & FACILITIES AT WILDERNESS MOMBO:

At Wilderness Mombo, there are seven tented suites and one family tent, and each has a private veranda complete with plunge pool! The interiors feature a very well-appointed bedroom and a separate lounge. The en-suite facilities comprise flush toilet, twin washbasins, indoor and outdoor showers, and a bathtub boasting copper and brass finishings. Either side of every suite, tall trees provide ample shade and privacy.

The camp features recycled “twisting” balustrades, boardwalks that weave so as not to disturb the elephant pathways, and divine en-suite tents with private verandas. Wilderness Mombo has a well-stocked bar too, in addition to a fire-pit for pre-dinner drinks and a couple of plunge pools for cooling off between activities.

WILDERNESS MOMBO ACTIVITIES:

Wilderness Mombo offers a range of activities, as follows:

  • Expertly guided game drives

    - Due to its location in one of the most wildlife-rich regions of all Safari Africa, Wilderness Mombo has always offered exceptionally good game drives. These game drives will take place during the morning and the afternoon.
  • Wildlife spotting

    - Around Wilderness Mombo concentrations of mammal and bird species are truly outstanding - the camp is often referred to as ‘The Place of Plenty’ for this reason! All the big cats are in residence – lion, leopard, and cheetah. Other predators you’ll be likely to see include hyenas, jackals, and wild dog. Among the herbivores, the presence of elephant, and buffalo completes the classic Big Four, while huge herds of giraffe, wildebeest, zebra, and an assortment of antelopes make for a really spectacular show here
  • Birding

    - There are numerous bird highlights too, such as martial eagle, wattled crane, lesser jacana, and the intriguing Pel’s fishing owl. Guests will have access to a hide too, situated just 20 minutes from camp and a must-visit for keen photographers!

*This property is unfenced and located in a wildlife area, so large and potentially dangerous animals do pass through. If you opt to stay here, always be alert when walking around the camp and request for a member of staff to escort you if you have any concerns. Any guest is escorted after dark as a matter of course.
