The camp sits on a palm-fringed island facing a beautiful lagoon with a backdrop of vast open plains, woodland and narrow waterways.
ACCESS & LOCATION:
Macatoo Camp is located in the Abu concession in the southwest of the Okavango Delta and best known for its horseback safaris.
ACCOMMODATION & FACILITIES:
Accommodation is in six spacious walk-in tents set on raised wooden decks, each with beds, safari furniture and an en suite bathroom with toilet and shower. Delicious meals are served in the central area and there is plunge pool where guests can cool off between activities.
Horse riding safaris are the most popular activity. Wildlife is less afraid of people when they are on horseback, so riders can sometimes enjoy the extraordinary experience of cantering alongside a herd of zebra or giraffe. Non-riding partners can spend their time on more conventional safaris in a vehicle, on foot or in a boat.
The area is particularly good for plains game, especially zebra, wildebeest and various antelope, however there are also giraffe, herds of buffalo, some predators and over 350 species of bird.
Fly camping is also popular at Macatoo as it enables guests to see more remote areas of the park. Guests can sleep in simple dome camps or covered by mosquito nets under the stars, enjoying delicious food cooked on a campfire. This is a very special experience.
