“Taking the iconic style of Jack's Camp in the Makgadikgadi to the Okavango Delta, Duke's Camp promises to deliver a magical experience in the Okavango Delta.”

OVERVIEW:

This brand new camp comes with excellent pedigree. Brought to us from the owners of the iconic and much loved Jack’s Camp, it brings their famous 1940’s style to the waterways of the northern Delta. Set on a private island and named after Sarefo ‘Duke’ Sarefo of the Wayeyi tribe, the excellent game location, quality of guiding and wealth of activities make it a classy addition to any itinerary.

ACCESS & LOCATION:

Located on Kgao island in an 89,000 hectare, game rich concession of the Okavango Delta, Duke’s Camp borders Moremi and the renowned Vumbura and Duba plains: an area of outstanding beauty and true wilderness. Set amid leadwood and ebony trees, this stunning camp overlooks a lagoon and you can view wildlife from the comfort of your own decking!

To reach Duke’s you would fly into the concession’s private airstrip from either Kasane or Maun. Expect to see all the big players: large herds of buffalo, lion, cheetah, zebra, elephant, leopard to name but a few. You can also do a hot air balloon from Duke’s (May-Sept) for unmatched aerial views of the Delta – not many camps have access to this.

ACCOMMODATION & FACILITIES AT DUKE'S CAMP:

Much like its venerable sister camp Jack’s, all the finishings and fittings are in 1940’s old world explorer style. Each room is beautifully appointed with glorious views over the flood plain and seasonal lagoon; enjoy game viewing right from your elevated suite. The family tent includes two separate rooms with their own en-suite bathrooms, separated by a shared lounge and outside deck. The main areas are glorious and have an impeccable attention to detail, with a sumptuous décor evoking a bygone age. There’s also a pool, if, like the hippos, you enjoy a dip during the heat of the day. The camp is exclusively solar powered which means 24 hour electricity, yet there’s purposefully no Wi-Fi. A chance to enjoy Africa as it should be - authentic, and free of screens or distraction.

ACTIVITIES AT DUKE'S CAMP:

Duke’s Camp offers an enticing and wide-ranging assortment of land and water-based activities. Please note, some of these depend on weather conditions and/or guide availability, as shown by an asterisk below:

  • Expertly guided game drives

    – These take place during the morning and the afternoon. Drives cover a lot of ground, traversing the plains of the 89,000-hectares to provide some high-quality wildlife viewing. Highlights include four of the Big Five – lion, leopard, elephant, and buffalo! You can also look out for smaller predators and herbivores, such as cheetah, spotted hyena, wild dog, giraffe, wildebeest, zebra, and antelopes.
  • Boating*

    – Explore the waterways of the concession on a thrilling boat trip. There’s a lot to see, not least hippo, Nile crocodile, and plenty of waterbirds.
  • Mokoro excursions*

    – You can also view the wildlife of the waters aboard a mokoro, a dug-out canoe. As the mokoro doesn’t have a motor, you’ll enjoy listening to the mammals, reptiles, and birds around you.
  • Catch-and-release fishing*

    – Basic equipment is available from camp for guest use. You could spend an entire afternoon fishing the area’s waterways, catching-and-releasing the likes of pike and bream.
  • Hot air ballooning over the Okavango Delta

This activity is available at extra cost. You can take to the skies, to marvel at breath-taking vistas across the Delta!
  • Helicopter trips over the Okavango Delta

Also incurring an additional charge, helicopter flights are another wonderful way of experiencing the Delta from on high.
  • Rock Art Visits

Excursion to see the fantastic local artwork.

*This property is unfenced and located in a wildlife area, so large and potentially dangerous animals do pass through. If you opt to stay here, always be alert when walking around the camp and request for a member of staff to escort you if you have any concerns. Any guest is escorted after dark as a matter of course.
