"The Chobe Princess is a collection of boats that run on the Chobe river. Aimed to sit just below the top-end boats on the river, The Princess does a very good job at great value and opens up a style of safari that’s unique and refreshing. We surprised ourselves with how much we loved it!"

OVERVIEW:

The Chobe Princesses are listed in the portfolio of the Zambezi Queen Collection, a member of the Mantis Collection of Hotels, Eco-escapes and Lifestyle Resorts. Mantis is highly renowned for its luxurious accommodation, first-class food and drink, and superb service. The price of your stay aboard a Chobe Princess includes your cabin suite, all meals, and a selection of alcoholic and soft drinks. It’s possible to book a boat for exclusive use – please contact a member of our team for information. The Princesses sail throughout the year.

ACCESS & LOCATION:

Each houseboat is accessed via tender boat transfer from Kasane. The Princesses sail along the River Chobe, between Chobe National Park and the Caprivi Strip.

ACCOMMODATION & FACILITIES AT CHOBE PRINCESSES:

Two of the Chobe Princesses have four cabin suites apiece, while the third has five. All are exquisitely styled, with a blend of local and contemporary design. Among each room’s furnishings are a king-size bed or twin beds, bedside lighting, a writing desk cum vanity table and stool, and a wardrobe. In-room amenities include air conditioning and mosquito netting around the windows. The en-suite facilities comprise flush toilet, washbasin, and shower. A range of toiletries is supplied, as is insect repellent. The windows provide amazing vistas of the Chobe river as you drift along this expanse of water, all the while watching for wildlife!

All three of the Chobe Princesses have an upper entertainment deck with a large lounge and bar. This area features plush seating around coffee tables, where you can relax and enjoy scanning the riverbanks for predators, herbivores, and ample birdlife. There’s a selection of reading material too. Adjacent to this space is the open-air dining area, where chic upright chairs are set up around smart tables. In common with food and drink on Mantis’ Zambezi Queen, the meals served or presented buffet style aboard the Chobe Princesses are really high class! Finally, the deck incorporates an inviting plunge pool, so you can cool off in between activities and admire the scenery.

ACTIVITIES AT CHOBE PRINCESSES:

Guests of the Chobe Princesses choose between a two- or three-night itinerary. Neither itinerary is set, so you can decide how you’d most like to spend your time on and around the river. Here are a few examples of what you can enjoy:

  • Game viewing

    - Of course you can observe the residents of the Chobe region while on board any one of the Princesses, through your suite windows or from the communal entertainment deck. However, Mantis has a special double-storey game-viewing boat, accessed via a small tender boat, that’ll get you much closer to the wildlife. The lands and waters of Chobe National Park and the Caprivi Strip are home to plenty of big cats, huge herds of elephant and buffalo, lots of plains game, hippos, crocs, and a wealth of waterbirds.
  • Fishing

    - It’s possible for keen anglers to embark on special year-round trips, with all equipment provided so you needn’t bring your own. The mighty tiger fish is the main attraction in this part of Safari Africa, but other species you can try your hand at catching include catfish, yellowfish, pike, and a variety of breams. Please note, fishing is offered on a strict catch-and-release basis.
  • Birding

    - Over 450 species of feathery friend live around the Chobe river! And come September, this number is further boosted, as a medley of migrant species flies in. Guests of the Chobe Princesses can go on special birding safaris, in the company of an expert guide. Setting off in a tender boat, you’ll have many a happy hour spent looking out for the likes of fish eagle, cattle egret, carmine bee-eater, and much more besides.
  • Photo safaris

    - If you have a passion for photography, we thoroughly recommend this activity. The Zambezi Queen Collection owns a special photographic safari boat, which is perfect for taking snapshots of your most memorable moments on the river. The boat boasts swivel chairs and mounting for your SLR camera, and you’ll be accompanied by a highly skilled guide.
  • Cultural tours

    - Guests interested in a cultural add-on to their safari can travel by tender boat to Ijambwe, a Namibian village. Here, you’ll meet the villagers, have opportunities to purchase some of their craft items, and enjoy some singing and dancing too! In readiness for the visit, you could pack a few gifts for the village children, as books, clothing, and stationery are always happily received here.

*This property is unfenced and located in a wildlife area, so large and potentially dangerous animals do pass through. If you opt to stay here, always be alert when walking around the camp and request for a member of staff to escort you if you have any concerns. Any guest is escorted after dark as a matter of course.
