“This classic tented camp is well priced and has a location that guarantees absurdly good game viewing. It’s a product with a somewhat adventurous flair, but I’ve always thought Camp Savuti has it right in all the right places, and is not over the top.”

OVERVIEW:

Offering good value for money and a great location, Camp Savuti provides a classic base camp from which to explore the wildlife-rich region! Activities focus on vehicle safaris, in the company of a knowledgeable guide.

Camp Savuti is listed in the portfolio of Footsteps in Africa. This company operates 7 camps throughout Botswana. The emphasis is on authenticity, so Camp Savuti is better suited to adventurous travellers than to clients seeking luxury for their safari holiday. The accommodation is booked on a full-board basis, including all meals, a selection of alcoholic and soft drinks, all game activities, and all park fees. The camp is open all year round.

ACCESS & LOCATION:

The camp is accessed via approximately 30 minutes’ road transfer from Savuti’s airstrip. It overlooks the Savuti channel and borders the Chobe National Park.

ACCOMMODATION & FACILITIES AT CAMP SAVUTI:

Guest accommodation consists of five tents. These are spaced well apart from each other and raised above ground level, with steps leading up onto wooden decking. Each tent is Meru in style, which means that an exterior layer of canvas extends over the inner structure to form a shady veranda. The veranda is set with a couple of chairs and a small table, and it’s a lovely spot for relaxing and enjoying your views! A zipper opening forms the entrance into the bedroom, which is carpeted and contains a king-size bed or twin beds, bedside tables and lighting, a writing desk cum vanity table and stool, and ample storage space for your belongings. Quite unusually for a Meru-style tent, there’s also an air conditioning unit! And the en-suite facilities, positioned behind a curtain, comprise flush toilet, washbasin, bathtub with shower attachment, and an adventurous outdoor shower! The honeymoon tent is larger than the others, with a bigger double bed and a few romantic details.

The communal facilities at Camp Savuti are housed in and around a spacious lodge at the centre of camp. This too is elevated above the ground and constructed from canvas and timber, so it has a classic safari feel. Inside, the lounge offers plenty of comfortable seating around a couple of coffee tables. There’s a library too, where you can settle with a good book and appreciate a little quiet time. The dining area features upright chairs around a couple of tables laid with colourful cloths, in addition to an adjoining bar. The décor is predominantly wood, and there are a lot of intriguing arts-and-crafts items dotted about. Outside, there’s a viewing deck with amazing views towards the Savuti Channel. There’s also a boma for al fresco dining, and lastly a fire-pit, which is the perfect place for getting to know your fellow travellers and sharing your safari stories!
