Our Yellow Zebra Opinion
  • Great choice
This is the entry-level camp for the Naibor Collection, offering great value for the quality of game viewing and guiding on offer. An interesting but certainly simple and adventurous camp.

Activities

Naibor Wilderness offers a great range of things to do – game drives, hot air balloon rides, and village visits.

Local village visits

  • Game drives are available during early morning and late afternoon, and also as a full-day activity. The full-day option is recommended during the Great Migration months, when the huge herds come thundering through the Maasai Mara! However, the reserve boasts a wealth of wildlife all year round. All of the Big Five are in residence here – lion, rhino, leopard, elephant, and buffalo – alongside lots of other predators and herbivores. The camp’s vehicles are perfect for viewing and photographing the animals – and the birds too, if you are a keen birdwatcher!

  • You can also enjoy sights of the reserve from the air, in a hot air balloon ride. This involves rising with the dawn and flying for about one-and-a-half hours before descending to a champagne breakfast.

  • Village visits are a lot of fun too, and a wonderful opportunity to learn about the local people. If possible, we recommend fitting all these activities into your stay!

*This property is unfenced and located in a wildlife area, so large and potentially dangerous animals do pass through. If you opt to stay here, always be alert when walking around the camp and request for a member of staff to escort you if you have any concerns. Any guest is escorted after dark as a matter of course.

Access & Location

Naibor Wilderness is one of three camps that make up Naibor Camp , situated in the Mara confluence sector of the Maasai Mara National Reserve. Naibor Camp is located on the south side of the Talek river, amidst greenheart and orange leaf croton trees. Most properties in this area are on the river’s north side, so Naibor Wilderness feels less touristy overall.

The mess tent contains a lounge with comfortable seating around a coffee table, and a dining room with elegant tables and chairs. From both the lounge and the dining room, guests have amazing views of the Talek river! And if you choose to tuck in to meals al fresco, you might well enjoy the sights and sounds of a hippo pod nearby. The camp’s boutique stocks vibrant Maasai jewellery, while the spa offers free head-and-neck massages on the first evening of your stay!

Amenities

The three guest tents that make up Naibor Wilderness are connected to the main areas via paths through the trees.

All are Meru style, featuring a double-roof design. The upper roof extends farther than the lower roof to create a lovely veranda – this is laid with a table and two chairs for private dining. Inside each tent, there is a wrought iron-framed double bed, bedside tables and lighting, and two storage chests. At the back, behind a wall of canvas, are the en-suite facilities – these comprise flush toilet, twin washbasins, and bucket shower. The shower is filled with hot water every day, on request. The accommodation is fairly simple, but little touches such as snug rugs on the floor really help you feel at home!
