Abi's biography

Born with a passion for all animals, Abi’s career was always going to be related to the Natural World in some way. She obtained a degree in Zoology from Bristol University and went on to complete a PhD studying birds and behaviour. Abi caught the travel bug after her studies, on a year-long solo trip around the World, and a craving for exploring new places, and especially wildlife, has endured in her ever since. She first went to Africa to work as a field guide and manager at Jack’s and San Camps in the Makgadikgadi region of Botswana and went on to manage Abu Camp in the Okavango Delta. She then moved to Kenya to manage ol Donyo Lodge in the Chyulu Hills. During holidays, Abi has travelled extensively in Africa, including across Botswana, Namibia, Zambia, Mozambique, South Africa, Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, Rwanda and also Madagascar.

Most memorable experience

It’s impossible for me to pick just one memorable experience! My favourites are the completely unique wildlife interactions that came from living in the bush full-time. A leopard walking right past our dinner table, an elephant that wandered up to our lunch table and another that crept right up to the camp fire while we were having a night cap. The naughty trespassing monkeys, midnight visits from genet cats exploring our tent and the elephant that used to sleep (and snore) leaning against the canvas. The aardvark we stumbled upon (almost literally) when we were walking guests to their rooms, and the banded mongoose family that came running out of our tent one day as they heard us approaching, except for the last one, who was too slow and hid in the bathroom before surprisingly appearing a few minutes later! I could go on…..!!!
