OVERVIEW:
Letaka Safaris, a citizen-owned company, has been operating safaris across Botswana since October 2000. It offers mobile tented accommodation in some of the country’s most wildlife-rich areas.
ACCESS & LOCATION:
Our top three Letaka locations are the Moremi Game Reserve, the Khwai Concession, and Chobe National Park. The company has put together a variety of safaris covering these three places, with all campsites easily accessible from the airport at Maun.
ACCOMMODATION & FACILITIES AT LETAKA SAFARIS:
The communal spaces include a pleasant dining tent, where guests enjoy meals freshly prepared at the site. Typically the furniture comprises one long table flanked by campaign chairs. Outdoor dining is also available, with table-and-chairs set up for three-course suppers under the night sky. Often a campfire is lit for early morning and evening gatherings, presenting the ideal opportunity to get to know your fellow travelers if you have opted for a set departure trip! There is nothing like sitting close to the fire, the sounds of wildlife all around you, while sharing your safari stories.
The guest accommodation at Letaka’s sites consists of very comfortable tents. They are Meru in style, with a second roof extending over the structure to provide a veranda with ample shade. This area is set with a couple of campaign chairs and a small table, inviting you to sit and perhaps sip a drink while marveling at the scenery! Inside, there are twin beds made up with colorful covers. A door at the back opens into a private washroom, featuring long-drop toilet and bucket shower. Both hot and cold water are available for showering, as water may be heated on the campfire. The family tent comprises two bedrooms and a shared washroom, and it is suitable for a maximum of two adults and two children.
ACTIVITIES AT LETAKA SAFARIS:
Activities at any Letaka location are focused on seeing as much of the local wildlife as possible, on game drives, walking safaris, and boating safaris. There is also a keen emphasis on birding!
- Moremi trips concentrate on exploring the Okavango Delta on foot and by boat, including mokoro.
- You can even take a helicopter flight on some safaris! Other itineraries involve a combination of Moremi and the Khwai Concession, while the longest trips take you to Chobe too.
- Whichever safari you choose, you are guaranteed great wildlife sightings – plenty of predators such as lion, leopard, cheetah, hyena, and wild dog, in addition to loads of herbivores, among them elephant, buffalo, giraffe, zebra, wildebeest, and an impressive assortment of antelope species. And the birding really is something special, with a vast variety of raptors, waterbirds, songbirds, and many more to spot – do not forget your binocs!
- Both tailor-made and set-departure trips are possible, with children of all ages welcome on bespoke safaris. The range of activities available depends on where you choose to visit, but generally things to do include game drives, boating safaris, and birding! Walking safaris are not provided inside national parks.
*This property is unfenced and located in a wildlife area, so large and potentially dangerous animals do pass through. If you opt to stay here, always be alert when walking around the camp and request for a member of staff to escort you if you have any concerns. Any guest is escorted after dark as a matter of course.
