"The Mount Nelson is a much-loved icon in the Mother City. Well known by local and international visitors for maintaining it's historic, elegant feel and guaranteeing the highest quality service and arguably the country's best high tea for fans of the finger sandwich & scone! In fact, this little haven in the city is so well-loved by this (ex)local in particular... that my husband and I chose this timeless classic as the location of our own wedding with the knowledge that our friends and family would be treated to an impeccable celebration!"

OVERVIEW:

Belmond Mount Nelson Hotel is owned and operated by Belmond, a company specialising in amazing experiences in South Africa, Botswana, and many other countries worldwide. The Mount Nelson was originally built to function as an outpost for the empire, for guests from the Union–Castle cruise liners. Various rates are available, so please contact a member of the YZ team to discuss your requirements. The hotel is open all year round.

ACCESS & LOCATION:

The hotel can be accessed easily with only a 20 minutes’ road transfer from Cape Town’s international airport. It’s situated just off popular Kloof Street just minutes from the bustling city centre, the V&A Waterfront and Table Mountain – and within almost three hectares of manicured grounds!

ACCOMMODATION & FACILITIES AT BELMOND MOUNT NELSON HOTEL:

There’s an extensive selection of rooms and suites, positioned within the main building or in accommodation wings in the grounds. All combine iconic styling and modern comforts. Rooms come in two categories – Deluxe and Superior. Both feature a king-sized bed or twin beds, bedside tables and lighting, a glamorous chandelier, a writing desk and chair, a plush seating area, and ample storage space. Additional amenities include widescreen television and Wi-Fi. En-suite facilities comprise a full marble bathroom. The suite options are more spacious and also offer an iPod dock. There are eight types of suite – Junior, Deluxe Junior, Studio, Deluxe Studio, One Bedroom, Deluxe One Bedroom, Presidential, and Accessible. Some have a private balcony, providing a lovely spot for relaxation and enjoying your garden views!

Mount Nelson Hotel’s communal areas are pretty special too. Numerous lounges throughout the main building offer sumptuous seating around coffee and occasional tables, interesting artwork, and twinkling chandeliers. One lounge is the setting for the hotel’s legendary Afternoon Tea, which is something of an institution in Cape Town! Eateries include Lord Nelson Restaurant, where guests tuck in to avant-garde dishes as an original bust of Nelson looks on. Oasis Bistro provides tasty breakfasts from 6:30 until 11:00, and pool service 9am to 6pm. A great range of drinks is available at Planet Bar, a super-chic space complete with terrace. You can even enter the hotel’s kitchen to observe the talented chefs at work! Mount Nelson also boasts a well-equipped fitness centre, superb spa, and tennis courts within the grounds. The gardens also contain two heated swimming pools, perfect for a refreshing dip in between trips into Cape Town and farther afield!

*For families with children under the age of 6 years, we always request rooms with balconies which meet H&S standards, or a room without a balcony, for safety reasons. We also always request rooms no more than 20 metres from the stairs in the main building, due to long dead-end corridors. If you stay here with us, please ensure this is what you are given.*
