The service standards at River Lodge are as impressive as we would expect from the luxurious accommodation. In particular, the lodge is passionate about fine dining, priding itself on using ingredients sourced locally for an authentic eating experience. The kitchen was designed by Bruce Bromberg, of Cordon Bleu background and Blue Ribbon Restaurants fame, and staff are able to rustle up a wonderful assortment of dishes. Other services include in-room massages and spa treatments, childcare on request, and a very useful information service!

ACCOMMODATION & FACILITIES AT VICTORIA FALLS RIVER LODGE:
The main lodge, a classic wood-and-thatch structure, is positioned just metres from the Zambezi and offers superb views of the rushing river and the wildlife that frequent its banks. The lodge’s design is open plan, accommodating a comfortable lounge and dining area, in addition to a fully stocked bar. Complimentary Wi-Fi and board games are available, and there is an infinity pool with sunloungers. Not far from the lodge, there is a bonfire area and a tree hide for watching wildlife at a nearby waterhole.
All of the tents at River Lodge are extremely spacious, possibly the largest we have seen! They are also made of wood and thatch and covered in canvas, each standing majestically on a raised deck overlooking the water. They are stylish too, with interiors featuring an earthy palette plus notes of white, sage and duck egg. Most of the tents house double beds (actually bigger than king size!), with the option for twin-beds configuration. All boast full air conditioning, ceiling fan, seating area, mini bar, tea- and coffee-maker, 2-way radio, electronic safe, complimentary slippers and bathrobes, and en-suite facilities including twin washbasins, indoor and outdoor showers, and freestanding bath – and many tents have their own private plunge pool! The family suites have one single bed and bunk beds, ample for three children aged under 17 years.
ACTIVITIES AT VICTORIA FALLS RIVER LODGE:
River Lodge is well placed to provide a full menu of activities.
- Game drives take place during mornings and afternoons, with a Junior Discovers option for children and accompanying adult. Walking safaris are available also. This is a game-rich area of the national park and it is common for guests to spot lion, leopard, elephant, buffalo, plus vast herds of giraffe, zebra, antelope, eland, kudu, impala and waterbuck.
- Fish are abundant in the river – over 75 species! – and the lodge is able to offer fishing safaris. Other ways to get out on the water include canoe safaris and sunset cruises. The area teems with birdlife also, with more than 400 species noted here.
- And activities for children are not limited to game drives – kids can also enjoy Young Bushwackers close to camp and Fables by Firelight, listening to traditional tales from Africa while munching on treats cooked over the bonfire. That sounds good to us too!
- Finally, there is even more to do at Falls Bridge – bungee jumping, bridge swinging, bridge sliding – plus helicopter flights, river rafting, zip line.
*This property is unfenced and although animal densities are not that high along this stretch of the Zambezi River, there is always the potential for dangerous game. So if you opt to stay here please always be cautious and look out for wildlife when walking around, especially at night.
